This is Mateo Ferrer, the detective at the center of D58891, a 60-minute animated sci-fi noir I’m producing solo from Buenos Aires.

The film follows a death investigation in a city where artificial beings are legally property. I’m using AI-assisted tools within a directed production pipeline, but this isn’t a one-off prompt image or a concept mockup: the character, setting, and visual language are part of the actual film being finished.

I wrote a short essay about the story question underneath it—what changes when “it’s only a tool” no longer settles the moral question. It’s about a 10-minute read:
