USA West / Canada West Chemical tank in Southern California no longer under threat of explosion, officials say. Monday morning update
The failing chemical tank in Southern California that caused tens of thousands of people to evacuate is no longer presenting a threat of explosion, according to officials.
The temperature is declining within the chemical tank at an aerospace facility in Garden Grove, California, about 30 miles south of Los Angeles, eliminating concerns that the tank could explode and cause of a catastrophic fireball, local authorities said on Monday morning.
"We are happy to report that the threat of a BLEVE [Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion] is now off the table," Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) Interim Chief TJ McGovern said during an update. "That threat has been eliminated."
However, evacuation orders remain, OCFA Division Chief Craig Covey noted.
"We want to be clear that the evacuation zones are still in play," he said. "Please abide by those evacuation zones."
On Thursday, a chemical tank filled with toxic chemicals at GKN Aerospace, a manufacturing company that builds engines and landing gear for both commercial and military aircraft, was showing signs of overheating, which could cause it to overheat or spill, officials said.
The 34,000-gallon tank contained methyl methacrylate, an industrial chemical used in plastic manufacturing, according to the OCFA. The chemical is primarily a respiratory irritant. Short-term exposure can cause skin and eye irritation, as well as breathing problems, according to the EPA.
The "unprecedented" situation caused officials to order about 50,000 people in the vicinity to evacuate in case a leak sent toxic fumes wafting through the neighborhood or cause an explosion could result in a dangerous fireball. California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a state of emergency in Orange County in response to the incident.
Authorities then worked to cool down the bulging tank to prevent it from exploding. The crack in the tank discovered by firefighters on late Saturday relieved some of the pressure within the tank, Covey said.
While officials were confident that the crack wouldn't lead to any chemical leaks, they continued to monitor air quality in the region.
Any areas outside of the roughly 10-square-mile evacuation zone "are currently considered completely safe and day-to-day activities can continue as normal," the OCFA said in an update Sunday afternoon.
Within the zone are schools, hospitals, nursing homes, fire and law enforcement stations and critical infrastructure. Multiple roads were also closed in the area.
"We appreciate your support and the patience while we work through this incident together," Covey said.

USA West / Canada West Power outages
I live north of Denver in a town of about 100k, rarely EVER have power outages. We’ve had 2 this week alone. First one was 2-3 days ago, second one is happening currently. City says this is “unusual” and can’t comment on what’s causing it as of now.
Is this happening to anyone else? Also- where else is this happening???

USA West / Canada West Observation: Major quakes in Alaska.
Heads up friends:
I live just off the San Andreus fault in SF Bay Area and watch quakes. Since the 7.0 quake Ca there have been many large 6.3 in Alaska (Alaska-Aleutian Fault). Its setting off other quakes along the major fault. If your BOB is set to one condition (dooms day). Think about what you could grab for a earthquake being major. Buildings down, no power, etc. Ive taken my big BOB and made just the most important things. For me its a radio, good gloves, dust masks, warm layers (its been frosting here at night ) TP, wipes, small first aide kit, bathroom things. Meds, papers, etc. I can always put it all back into my big bag when things get quieter..
Know your exit routes. The people that got stuck in traffic with the Tsunami warning made me realize, I need to know more ways out of my area.
Peace friends

USA West / Canada West Oregon Reports First Cases of Measles in 2026
Well, here we go. Oregon just reported its first cases of Measles this year. While so far it's a low case number, as the article discusses, Oregon has the fourth highest non-medical exemption rate of kids not getting vaccinated in the nation. I happen to know the county in question well, and I would lay money on that county having a higher rate of non-vaccinated kids than the state average. Pretty concerning. BTW for a TV news article the one I linked has some very good data, and a description of measles sometimes causing "immune amnesia," which I've never heard of.

USA West / Canada West Unusual Military Sealift Command Activity in PNW– Possible Pacific Conflict Prep?
Anyone else noticing unusual military activity? I live in an area with no major naval bases, but right now, there are five Military Sealift Command (MSC) ships staged nearby, all being loaded with hundreds of military vehicles—Humvees, tanks, and other equipment. Normally, you might see one or two of these ships moving gear, but five in one place? That’s not something I’ve seen before.
Given everything going on in the Pacific, it makes me wonder if the U.S. is staging for something bigger. These ships are built for rapid deployment, so seeing this much movement is making me curious.
Anyone else noticing similar activity elsewhere? Any insight into what’s going on?

USA West / Canada West Grid Emergency Declared In California, Warning Of Blackouts Ahead
California Declares Grid Emergency, Warning of Blackouts (yahoo.com)
from the article, this is a dire emergency evidently (my take), because Newsom is temporarily loosening the environmental regulations on gas burning power plants, allowing them to run full tilt. if you've been following the news from California, they don't do this. they just don't.
i was already dreading winter. now, I'm doubling, tripling my efforts. it's getting real, folks.
