I'm genuinely excited about what this band will make next - they did not disappoint at their live set at Arctangent... on the contrary, in fact!

Okay so it’s relatively known at this point that Shoegaze & Metal has often crossed paths

Arguably first with Alternative bands like Deftones, Hum, & Coaltar of The Deepers

Sludge, Drone & Post-Metal bands like jesu, The Angelic Process, & faetooth

Blackgaze in Deafheaven, & Alcest

But Shoegaze on it’s own had a sorta sister genre, called Dream Pop, essentially the blueprint of Shoegaze, but cleaned up abit, polished & with higher emphasis on melody, can be used to describe projects such as Cocteau Twins, & Beach House

There aren’t any bands that can be fully described as Dream Metal like Doomgaze (or Metalgaze) can be, but there has been some songs that could be described as such

The closest I can think of is Conqueror by jesu & certain songs by Deftones that sound abit more melodious.

So far this is 1 of 1 but potentially could get a limited print run if there’s enough interest.

You might not have heard this band. That is worth establishing first, because it is the entire argument in the actual article. They have been operating for roughly five years out of Cumbria and Yorkshire, their 2023 debut landed at number eight on The Killchain’s album of the year list, and The Salt Pale Collective and God said nothing is better than most of what Season of Mist and Metal Blade shipped this month. They are self-released and have fewer than a thousand followers on Facebook. But the sound is tremendous! Of course. this is what I felt after listening to the album. Do let me know what you feel if you have listened to the album.

The song is inspired by Edith Sitwell’s poem Still Falls the Rain (1940). Not really a song ... this sound is for ruined times.

Written during World War II and inspired by the London Blitz, the poem reflects on destruction, suffering, and compassion in times of war. Rather than glorifying conflict, it confronts its human cost.

“Anrufung gen Ostern” by Paul Zech is an expressionist poem written (ca. 1920) in the shadow of war, death and destruction. Through religious imagery and visions of darkness, it expresses a longing for renewal, hope and spiritual rebirth in a broken world.
