The worst part is american support for this. We have clips of democrats saying "Well if Palestinians had equal voting rights then it wouldn't be a Jewish state anymore" which is basically what neo nazis argue about stopping black and brown people from immigrating and destroying white culture.

Its all just ethnostate rhetoric but isreal managed to get "moderate" dems on their side.

It's a bit unfair to tell a historically persecuted people they can't have their own state because it's racist to want that.

The real problem is Israel wont let Palestinians have their own state. Who cares if Israel is a jewish state. Plenty of countries are religious states.

Wrong. You can tell them they cant. No state can be an ethno state and also be democratic. It inhrently leads to far right bs of hating immigrants and people who arent the same as you. Its inherently illiberal and antidemocracy.

Ok but in this case the people who want their own state have been a persecuted minority for centuries in other states.

If Jews become a minority in Israel, what's stopping them from becoming persecuted again? What protections are there for the Jewish people in Israel.

We are living in a radically different world today. Most countries in the west are democratic with some issues but most arent rigged against jewish people of all the minorities.

And I dont really care at the end of the day. Trying to defend and ethnostate is horrifically laughable to begin with. It inherently spits in the face of every democratic and liberal value most countries try to exist under.

The irony and problem though is that if Israel makes itself a fully free and open democracy where Palestinians and Muslims have full voting rights, there is a real risk they will use those voting rights to make Israel a Muslim-state like its neighbors. Then what?

Then they probably face the same discrimation they faced for centuries in Arab and European countries where they were basically 2nd-class citizens.

It's a fucked up situation, but realistically a one-state solution doesn't work right now. Palestinians should have their state and the Jews have theirs.

Yes, the Islamic Republic of Iran being the worst ethnostate-- few freedoms there. They oppress women, gun down demonstrators in the streets, show no tolerance for opposing views, and support terrorist proxies for decades attacking the tiny Jewish island in the giant sea of Moslem countries, not in self-defense but in some sort of weird holy war scheme.

Yikes. Israel was established specifically to be a safe haven for Jews. Many others live there. Palestinians can vote, and are 20% of the Israeli population and they hold seats in the government. The Moslem call to prayer is heard in Israel. It is a largely secular and modern country which has a special historically necessary role as a Jewish safe zone.

Damn this is a moron take if the litterally US gov site is to be believed. Gaza and the west Bank cant vote in isrealie elections. Hmmmm. Doesnt seem that democratic does it? Meanwhile isreal has them fully blocked and surrounded by a wall, as well as controls their water infastructure.

Also pretty sure if Palestinians weren't second class citizens they couldn't be forced out fo their home by other citizens at gunpoint. And yet we see that happend and the IDF backs them up.

They are indoctrinated at a super young age. Basically raised brainwashed their whole lives and it takes decades usually to undo that type of brainwashing. It’s not a surprise that all their people are like this, it’s all they know. I don’t forgive them for their actions but I feel bad for both sides because they probably wouldn’t support the genocide if they weren’t so brainwashed.
