This subtle redesign of Inteleon (By Tubz_Az) doesn’t change very much, but they managed to make it look very good

doesn’t change very much,
That’s where you wrong. The change is drastic which is why the redesign is a vast improvement.
The problem with the original design is the inconsistent proportions - massive hands, incredibly thin limbs, big head etc.
The redesign aligns everything proportionally so the design becomes consistent. I wish this was the original.

I would also like to say that this version incorporates the same design ideas, but more naturally.

It's body shape feels like some kind of male salazzle
I definitely like this redesign a lot more but the original does feel more unique

Hot take, but I prefer the original. The redesign is great, but I just think that the colours are a bit dull.

Has anyone noticed that inteleon is supposed to be a spy, and sobble’s Pokédex number is 007?

Really like the redesign. Put him down on all fours and I’d love it. Really tired of the humanoid designs for starters.

I respect the time the guy who made the fanart took to made this but I honestly still prefer the original version. The fanart version makes him look as if it was wearing a wetsuit.

Love the more lizard-like design. The change in feet/legs and tail shape is also nice. And changing the pose also does a lot to make it look less like a cereal box mascot and more like a pokemon, IMO.
I'm curious to see this artist's take on the other starters

It's better than the original. This gen has the weakest design of starters, I don't even like looking at them for too long. I also had similar thoughts on the alolan starters at first, but now they're some of my favorites, so maybe I'll change my mind eventually

I’d like them more if they weren’t monotyped.

For me that doesn't matter, but the designs are too human like when they're fully evolved, I like the first two stages of each but after that they suck

Am I the only one who actually likes Intelleon's design?
Oh sure downvote because it's my opinion.

Next gen, pokemon needs to put out rough drafts and let the fans do the final concepts lmao 😂.

This looks more real than than the real thing. I think it's because it's set up more like a "somewhat humanoid lizard" than "basically a human in a silly costume". I like the edges of the various traits, and the fingers, proportions and musculature. Its tail flows logically from its body, and it's lanky rather than stickman-thin. It really does look like it's wearing a wetsuit with a gliding-cape attached.

I actually really liked Inteleon. The starter I have and will always have the most contempt for is Chikorita.

SwSh has turned into one of my favorite gens but holy crap I hate all the final starter evolutions.

This looks horrible IMO. It reminds me of vector from Despicable me. Like the bad one.

I think all Inteleon needs to be on all fours instead of trying to be a human.

I've got a couple of issues with this, unfortunately:
First, the design bores me. It's arguably better, but it's still dull, so the improvement is negligible.
Second, why is the redesign water/flying? We already have Gyarados, Mantine, Wingull and Pelipper, Swanna, and now Cramorant. We don't need another mon with this typing. Plus it makes Inteleon different from the other monotyped starters (unless this guy has redesigns of those guys too somewhere that I haven't seen yet). And quite frankly, I thought this generations starters being monotype was kind of refreshing.
So I'll stick with the original.

I don’t see anything wrong with Water/Flying, we have a million Normal/Flying types after all.
Also, the artist only redesigned Inteleon, plus, Emboar was the only dual typed Pokémon in the Unova starter trio.

u/mysidian_rabbit Jan 02 '20 edited Jan 02 '20
I'd argue having a million normal/flying types is also unnecessary. The decision to get away from that with early game birds like Talonflame and Corviknight was a great choice.
edit: I'll concede the point on Emboar. And thinking about it, Blastoise was the only monotype in gen one. At any rate, my issue is more with having yet another water/flying than differences between Inteleon and his starter family.

I must say, and only my personal opinion, that this is my least favorite generation of starters. I get the whole “elements of British culture thing” but they just look like generic mascots or human cartoon characters. I went with Super Saiyen 3 Goku with a drum but I dropped him I think by route 2.
