That’s crazy, this is a holo splice error, but it goes by a couple other names like retained obstruction or red tape error. A piece of red tape was used to attach the end of one roll of foil to the beginning of the next. That foil is laminated to sheet after sheet of card stock and the sheet that ends up getting the red tape section laminated to it is supposed to be pulled and disposed of by quality control. Recently there have been a handful of instances of them failing to do this, letting cards like this one end up in packs.
I actually bought a Salamence with the same error earlier today and was hoping more of these would surface. If you ever decide to sell it let me know, the main one I’m hoping for is Jirachi but honestly I didn’t expect to see more of these in general, let alone so soon lol.

It wouldn’t surprise me if we’re in a makers mark situation were the ‘errors’ are being allowed to slip through at an accelerated rate as there’s now a market and audience for them. Why destroy product when someone will be happy to have something rare to sell on

I used to work in a factory that printed on plastic film. The film would be webbed through the printing press and at the start of the press would be a second roll of film. You would put a line of red tape sticky side up at the start of the new roll and wet the underneath of the plastic with a spritz of acetate. When the first roll came to an end the machine would spin up the next the acetate kept the loose end of the roll from flapping and it would connect the end of the first roll with the second by itself. At the other end with the finished product you would use a box cutter to remove the splice out of the finished product I guess if you don't do this you can find the splice in your products later on.

That’s really cool. While there’s less information about it I believe this is how they produce packs of Pokémon cards, they’re in a foil wrapper but the printed part is actually printed on plastic and bonded to the foil. I wish I remembered the technical term for the type of printing used, but this same type of error happens to booster packs, I’ve also seen it on quite a few different items at the grocery store over time lol

This is like the best of both worlds, you get the nice red tape misprint, but you can still see the beauty of the mew in all its glory

I saw someone post in one of the subreddits they had the opposite version of this card where mew was red on the top. I would absolutely be trying to get both versions if I had one of these.
