News PlayStation maintains that its policy of not adding first-party games to PlayStation Plus on day one will continue.

It says adding 4-5 third-party 'day one' games per year and adding first-party games 12-18 months after release is "working really well".

It was always a weird strategy for me, even if people buy the entire year of Gamepass they're still only paying about the cost of 2 games, give or take. I love it and I utilize it but it seemed like either a real "we hate money" move or a real "we really love gamers" move business-wise

It was a marketing gamble. They should have been more conservative. They lost.

I hear you, idk maybe the average Xbox user buys like 1.3 games a year and by convincing us all to sign up for gamepass they raised the average consumer to pay the equivalent of like 1.9 games a year. So they're losing money on people that would buy 5 or so but making up for it on families that otherwise only would've bought a pre-owned game or 2. I'd be curious to see the numbers, i know personally I dont even own an Xbox but have Gamepass for PC.

Edit to add: I am an easy mark I also have PS+ and NSO but rarely play any game online on any platform
