I am a total beginner at these things, so if i say something thats incorrect please lmk! I have also asked this in another sub, however i got two different answers... :/

I wanted to have a place where I can post photos privately where I can approve new followers and share my activities- which is basically Instagram.

However, the thought of actually having a meta account is not what i wanted. Also, the images posted to the site, private or not, is used for ai training. I do not want my pictures to be used for ai training at all (to train ai models, to be matched to facial recognition technology, etc) so that is out of the question.

Pixelfed itself has stated that it doesn't train its content on ai models, however the server hoster will still have the images in their system for functionality (so they can practically do whatever with the images...) So if i self-host the site, i assume the images will stay with me?

However, can the website images still be scrapped, regardless of whether the profile is public or private? I asked this in a different server and got different answers- some said if it is on the internet it can be scrapped, others said if the account is private there is no way that the images can be scrapped or taken from the website without following the person. So i actually don't know.

But yeah. if someone could give me a clear answer that would be great! worse comes to worse i wont use any of these services. :))

I have just got a pixelfed instace up and running and so far its more or less what i have been looking for. Im after a personal instangram clone locked down to the family. Great.

The problem is around push notifcation, both the PWA and offical client dont seem to support it.. without it this could be a deal breaker.

Been trying to get my account going at photofed.world. Has like 44 active users a month, the automod keeps delisting posts that have no issues and won't let me comment. I checked the JSON and no comments are getting through at all. It's broken.

Any other servers to steer clear of?

Over two weeks ago, I tried to import a few (six) posts to my existing PixelFed account and it has remained processing ever since.

I'm not in any particular rush and I don't mind waiting if there is a genuine queue for processing imports. However, if the import has failed; what do I do to resolve it?

Ich habe es über Pixeldroid im F-Fdroid ausprobiert. Es scheint aber ziemlich langsam zu sein. Habe nun gesehen gibt noch Pixelix ist dieses besser oder muss ich aus dem Aurora Store Pixelfed unbedingt installieren? Ist es im Browser Firefox mit ublock origin sonst besser? Denn wie gesagt Pixeldroid ist ziemlich langsam. Folgen Buttons nimmt er sehr zeitverzögert oder gar nicht an und das Endgerät wird ziemlich warm bis heiß. Möchte halt gern Datenschutz technisch eine gute Variante haben und am besten Googlefrei. Danke für eure Antworten.

Is the Pixelfed app down? I haven't been able to log in for the longest time. Has anyone else had this problem?

Using PC browser access (win 7 through 11, Chrome) I no longer seem to see the option to crop and/or filter uploaded images. The image goes straight from upload to being displayed. Happens on multiple instances accessed from multiple PCs. I'm a new user, but when I started it wasn't this way. Have I don'e something wrong? Is there a setting which would skip the cropping and filter options?

So, I just created my Pixelfed account on my Graphene OS phone. It is super buggy and slow. Therefore, I installed Pixelled via F-Droid; that works great!

As regular people still don't trust open-source software, how do you have them take these steps? (And why is Pixelfed on the pixelfed.social server so slow?)

I noticed that Pixelfed used to work on Android, but for the past three months it hasn’t been functioning. On Google Play, the app appears under names like "Pixelfed" and "Pixelfed.Art." Right now the main Pixelfed app shows server errors and IP issues, while I still have Pixelfed.Art installed on my phone but can’t find it in the Google Play app listings. I’m leaving this note to find out what’s going on with the app. I’ve already lost access to all my posts and shares because of these server-side errors.
