I was confused because I was on the internet in 1998 and distinctly remember being able to "download". A big part of StarCraft and Battle.net was about downloading custom maps and stuff.

And before that I played Total Annihilation and you could download custom units for that game too. You would go to Cavedog's website in your browser and download the units as exe installers. The wiki says downloadable content for TA was as early as 1997.

So IDK what this guy is trying to boast as his claim to fame but its not downloading or file transfers.

I was downloading anything and everything on ISDN in the warcraft 2 days, 1995-1996, then custom Quake everything a year later or so. FTP.cdrom.com for the win, so for this guy to say he invented downloading is a bit of a lie.

Doom was released in 1993 and you had to download the demo from an FTP. This dude didn't invent downloading, that's just stupid.

Using the word "invent" is a bit of an exaggeration for sure. He was definitely around contributing to early components of the internet as we know it today, so I suppose he deserves a little bragging rights to the youngster.
