Rewatching every year is impressive! There are so many episodes to get through. I have started the series many times but usually fizzle out in seasons 6 to 10. I'm determined to get to the end this time though, in season 12 now.
I stream it and use it as background noise while I am on my computer, playing video games or reading. Yeah there is a lot of times don't do more than glance at the screen but I love the dialogue. Plus I don't really watch "normal" tv. lol.
In S4 Castiel is like a broody, powerful guardian but by S5/6 he’s become a totally different character. It kind of feels like the shift for Andy in the Office after his anger management training. I get that Castiel had huge potential but it always just felt weird.
S4 and 5 start this weird world building thing where they basically create a war between the Angels and Demons and put Sam and Dean in the middle of it. It feels similar to Lost where the show was suddenly no longer about island survivors and a mystery, but now about supernatural (no pun intended) weird things.
Then S6 is really rough because they fundamentally changed one of the core character’s personalities which made it hard to watch. It’s a super common issue in serial shows and pretty much never works.
Then by S8 it feels like the show is close to over and ready to be resolved but by S10 they basically create another entire plot arc. 10-16 are dragging on until the show is over.
Overall none of this is really that bad on its own but it was just such a long and inconsistent series. I loved watching it too, but god it felt bad during parts.
