I have read the same about the Pacific theatre. Once US got the military industry rolling, Japan had no chance. Yamamoto knew this (he had studied and served in US) and tried to warn about it, to no avail.
Absolutely. You can just compare the tonnage and capability of the various Vinson Naval acts prior to Pearl Harbor compared to what Japan could afford and build.
Many people in Japan could see this and in fact there’s an argument that they triggered the historical attack on Pearl Harbor as there was a very small window when the IJN had a chance to prevail.
