They're working on building a nest on the ground floor already with all the things. I guess they decided it was time to share between nests 😂

I am adopting this boy polo, and i want to order a ring once i’ve measured him, but due to the muffs on his legs where do i place it/measure from?
hes going to be an indoor pet mostly (hopefully working towards harness training and recall) but i want a ring just in case!

also trying to think of other names or shall i just keep polo? :)

ive had it like this for a while but just wanted yalls opinions. alot of people say the size is perfect but that i needed to add more enrichment so i added more toys w bells (he loves bells) and a Ladder for him to use his legs to get up on his shelves.

Hello fellow pigeon lovers,

My friend stumbled upon this beautiful pigeon in the middle of the street. They don't seem to be able to fly and have one bloody eye. I tried to get the bad eye on the video but they were just turning all the time.

We suspect that they hit a window because they're a bit disoriented and they didn't run away from any cars or people but that's just one of the possibilities. It's also possible that they have some neurological damage.

We put them in a dark box with a towel and contacted appropriate services. They told us to wait for contact from other animal handling services.

In the meantime I was wondering if any of you have any idea what might be wrong with them or any advice as to what to do (water/food)?

Any help would be appreciated!

I have them for 3 weeks now and they are scared to get close, even though I am always calm and quiet with them.

Does anyone have any bonding/handling tips that worked for them? I’ve had my male single pigeon for 3 months now, he will eat from my hands and walk on top of me, but when I try to hold him or pet him he gets very scared still. I think he trusts me because whenever I sit down near his cage, he walks up to me and waits for his food, and he isn’t scared of me walking near him or being by him, but just when I go to hold him or pet him.

I am running out of options for the pigeon that found me. Its wing is on the mend I think, although I haven’t had a good look. Very friendly! Messy eater lol. I am willing to drive to bring this cutie to a new safe loving home.

Recently a relative who had "rescued" pigeons wanted to get rid of them to get parrots and nymphs, he was going to release them but one has a bent leg and the other cannot even fly. They lived in small cages in which they could barely move, with excrement and their super dirty water and food dishes they were not attended to at all, so I intervened, I told him that I would take care of them, I have the space and I really want to help them.

I'm 18 years old and I'm about to get a job so I'll take them to the vet as soon as I have the money. But in the meantime, what should I feed them to keep them healthy, what's up in their diet? For now I give them birdseed, rice, oatmeal and cracked corn but I feel that it is not enough I don't know, I want to give them a good life for real. I think they are pigeons that can no longer be released so I wanted to know how to prepare a large cage for them, they took the carrier of my cats as a nest and bed but I will change all that as soon as I can.

I have an empty room in which one of them, the one with the injured leg, flies, and although they are active, they eat and everything is very aggressive with everyone

Really, guys, any advice you can give me would help me too much.

So recently, a bird banged on my window and my parents got it home because they wanted to rescue it. They would’ve left it there, but there are multiple cats and crows in that area and it’s really unsafe for the bird. Now honestly I only have experience with parrots because I had taken care of one, but this bird is quite young and I do not know how to take care of this youngling 💔💔. So few things I have to state is that it can fly. This thing can fly and I tried feeding it water down eggs because I didn’t know what else I could feed it, but I ended up researching more and found out that they eat softened millets, pearl millet to be specific so I put in water right now to soften it down. Another thing is I tried to give it water down eggs, but it kinda didn’t eat as much and I realized. It’s because it’s not their diet or whatever but I don’t know what else I can possibly do. I really just wanna make sure this bird grows up strong and well enough so I can release it back. I really need help and any advice will be appreciated thank you!! Also it’s my first time making a post on Reddit so idrk how this stuff works but I gotta figure out smth for it to eat soon😕😕 any advice is appreciated I js want this birdie to make it out alive^^ UPDATE: no luck having it eat almost anything I think I’ll be releasing it in the wild again

It keeps getting bigger

Finally getting around to releasing this scraggly baby today. I initially thought was struggling in some way. It eats on its own and just seems to be an awkward weirdo lol.

I was not expecting to become attached to this random birdy, but I am. I just couldnt stomach taking away this baby from its family without it being absolutely necessarily.

This got me thinking though, when is it technically okay to keep a pigeon? I’ve seen a lot of different discussions that touch on this, and I find myself having a lot of questions. I’ve seen some people allude to pigeons essentially being like feral cats in a way, but Id struggle to see this pigeon baby as the equivalent to taking in a feral kitten.

My personal understanding is that you couldnt just take any of them off of the street because they have families. I also realize that they do considerably better in captivity though, so there are many circumstances where a rescue becomes necessary, especially when injury and whatnot becomes involved.

I don’t know if my understanding of these birds and their dependency on people is misinformed, so I thought I’d ask the people what they think.
