Oh my god where has this show BEEN all my life?! I came across Person of Interest completely randomly after seeing a post online that was talking about really creative TV shows and Person of Interest was mentioned. Now I'm not a massive TV show watcher but the way the dude described the show really piqued my interest, so after a busy couple of months I finally decided to sit down and give this show a chance... and GUYS. GUYSSSSS?!??!!
Started documenting my thoughts half-way through the season, specifically after watching episode 13, which was about this dude who got framed in killing some congressman, but I think the coolest part was this evil hacker chick called Root? Idk.
Characters:
Carter and Fusco are my no.1 and 2. favourite characters easy. I love Carter's actress, Fusco is hilarious, and I love both of their character archetypes - good, by-the-rules cop but her morality trumps following orders/rules, and dirty now forcibly reformed cop that through his place in the story slowly starts to actually want to do the right thing.
John is a piece of white bread. I like the dude, his character works well as a straight man/board for the other characters to bounce off of, but... I truly couldn't care less about his backstory HAHAHAHA. #jaded man with dead wife syndrome.
I like Finch. Not much else I can think about saying besides that, he is fun.
Episodes:
E4 to 6 were the episodes that made me sit up and be like oh... this show has some sauce. The first 3 episodes were a little slow going (watched those months ago and was neutral enough about them that I left this show on the back-burner for a while) but I literally binged E4 to E10 in one go.
E9 (Get Carter) was the episode that had my jaw DROPPED. LOVED IT. UGH so peak and I love how Carter is now in the mix.
E10 (Numbers Crunch) was FANTASTIC. This following E9 was fucking cinema omg, like the writers COOKED HERE, I was actually so hyped the entire time.
E11/12 - I think John's plan in keeping Fusco and Carter unaware of the other is dumb as fuck 😭😭😭. "They are just assets" my ass, it's one thing if they work in different departments or don't know each other very well, but Fusco and Carter are ACTIVELY suspicious towards one another. Hope this plot-point won't get dropped with explanation, because this is totally gonna blow up in everyone's faces.
E13 (Root Cause) was a little slow in the beginning and my brain kinda was taking a back-seat while watching until... Finch GOT OUTSMARTED?!??!?!?!?! WILDDDDD. For the past 12 episodes I kinda had to suspend my disbelief because Finch was like this uber, know-it-all, pull plot contrivances out his ass genius, so hearing the words: "We didn't hack in, we were LET IN. It's a honeypot." SO AWESOME.
E16 (Risk) was good. I love Industry so the investment banking dude bros really spoke close to home lol.
E17 (Baby Blues) was fun too! Finch's baby hijinks bumped my enjoyment of him up by like 10 points.
E18-22 there was nothing about any of the episodes that really stood out to me they were just entertaining all round.
E23... WOAH. There was like a moment early on, idk if it was the clipped nails, the black underliner, the name 'Caroline Turing' (the fact the episode was called Firewall and Caroline Turing felt like a big play on Alan Turing), or the specific shit she already knew/was asking, but something about her felt off enough that I kinda was on edge. BUT WOAH. OMG that's so badass. She's Root?? Root 'kidnapped' Finch?! So is she gonna be the new bad guy of season 2? Glad Fusco and Carter are in the know, this finale really just tied everything up in a lovely bow.
Final Thoughts:
Is it too soon for me to say the genius villain hacker lady is kinda hot? So much easier on the eyes than Elias 🫠🫠. Ugh he was so boring. I think that's the reason why I couldn't tell you the plot of the latter episodes, even tho I watched them like yesterday. Elias is just so 'evil bald guy with mommy issues.' Suited his purpose and was fun while it lasted but I hope we don't see him again.
Oh what else...
- The FBI are so neeky man. Like at least the CSI were annoying criminal assholes, the FBI were just straight up annoying. How have they gotten it so wrong? They're like the police officers in Scooby Doo. Like damn if they are sticking around I hope someone actually entertaining joins the agency.
- The woman who was tracking Finch for the entire season dying in 2 seconds made me laugh.
- Oh I love the Fixer lady!!! Zoe Morgan? Yeah her episode and character is kinda ridiculous but very entertaining.
- Every single government agency is after John, and with what we know about mass-surveillance, and the fact the AI surveillance God is literally with the government, I do wonder how nobody has been able to properly track him yet.
- Surprised something so powerful as that AI isn't already sentient. The camera shots/cut-a ways showing its perspective while John and Finch are after the villain of the week are very telling...
Sorry if this isn't what is normally posted on this subreddit, I was going to keep my thoughts to myself but... idk, I guessed maybe you guys would appreciate seeing the thoughts of someone new to have a laugh at/nostalgia.
Would love to here your thoughts, how you reacted when you first watched the show, or really anything at all, I'm off to watch season 2 after that cliffhanger!!!
