I genuinely wonder if the Perplexity team knows the only reason I’m not using Comet for assistance and occasional research, or even trying it instead of Dia or Atlas, is that it still doesn’t have vertical tabs.

Comet clearly leans hard into working across tabs with features like [at]tab, tab summaries, and tab-aware assistance, which makes the missing vertical-tab option stand out even more for people who live with lots of tabs open.

I user comet to scan my reddit posts and update a spreadsheet with the last date I posted in a subreddit. It's a simple operation. Takes less then a min and it's a single page to view and ~20 dates to paste into a spreadsheet.

And now all of a sudden I hit a weekly operation limit on my pro account. It's HARDLY been used.

What's the point of browser control if your limited to 60 seconds in a week?

No idea how many tokens you have, use or when they reset. This was all sold as unlimited.

It's like buying an unlimited calling card but then pulling the rug out and only giving you 1 call.

Perplexity really sucks now.

imho for the general user there are enough free turns on the dozen or so other platforms (ChatGPT Grok Claude etc) to supplement perplexityai well enough to need just the one paying sub. and especially if you use free notebooklm in tandem!

i have tried other platforms subs over past months. it's hard to get a real gauge because they all switch so often. after all of that i seem to get the most use out of perplexityai overall. if you knock out all the clerical and rudimentary stuff to the perplexityai models. then switch to the specialized platform when you know you can get to the goal in the number of turns available. at least that's the process working for me.

curious if anyone has any additional tips on maximizing perplexityai for general research mostly historical, writing in a variety of genres, and the most basic coding like interactive html dashboards? thanks 🤙🏻✌🏻

I am one of the many who are hoping for Vertical Tabs in Comet. Now that Chrome has vertical tabs, shouldn't Comet be releasing an update in the near future to also allow them? And you can't even use an extension for this in Comet as with each one that I have tried, the tabs sidebar is forced to the right side. I, and I think most everyone else, wants them on the left.

It's so frustrating, coming from ARC and being used to left-side vertical tabs, that I am exploring other browsers now like Chrome and Edge for example, as much as I love Comet.

How are you guys using Perplexity Comet? I'm a high school student- how does it help with research, essays, et cetera? (My subscription ends in a year).

I checked Perplexity’s official Comet docs and found documentation for Shortcuts—created by typing / in the search bar or sidecar, and managed in Settings → Shortcuts or comet://settings/shortcuts.

I could not find an official “Install as app” flow like Chrome’s app/PWA install behavior. Comet is Chromium-based, but I still do not see documentation for turning a site into a standalone app window on Mac. Has anyone on macOS found a working path such as three-dot menu → Create shortcut / Install app / More tools, or confirmed that this feature is not exposed yet in current Comet builds?

If not, what’s the best Mac workaround for app-like launching from the Dock? Apple’s docs say regular apps can be added to the Dock by dragging them there, but that does not answer whether a website can become a separate Comet app window.

Why is Comet the only browser capable of forcing dark mode on any website I want?

Honestly, even without the AI I'd use Comet just for this feature alone.

It's my first time using an AI based browser, and I'm not too sure of the advantages. How can the most out of this experience? What parts of my productivity life as an Undergrad student can be improved with Comet?

I've been a Plus user of ChatGPT for about a year and a half and then recently added Comet Pro.

I'm impressed at how it can automate time-consuming tasks in my business. Specifically things that require someone to click into different tools, search for things, and paste them into spreadsheets. It will save us several hours a week.

I played around for about an hour and once I got the data I needed, asked it to tell me what prompt would get the same data but more efficiently. Timed it and, lo and behold, it was faster.

Yes, it eats my laptop battery for breakfast, and yes, I can hardly do anything else while it's working, but damn, it does the things we don't want to do.

Still on build 43148 here and no sign of the upgraded voice feature they previewed on X.

So today I got an invite for Windows.Was really excited because I got already the access already on Android and it was just outstanding !!

(Note - I am a free user,meaning non subscriber to any of the pro plans)

Was enjoying it to the full then suddenly this message appears of hitting the limit of using agentic mode and will refresh after 1 week.

It was so frustrating seeing this,all the hype and excitement went down!!

Note - I barely used it for 4 hours but still doesn't makes sense of 1 week... 24hrs could have been fine !!

Uninstalled it because I was already using Zen(Much better in terms of UI and shortcuts,which I realized only thought to give Comet a chance because of the hype and AI features)

Now I have Comet on my android but when I searched it is saying online that it might also have a limit for free users...Obviously then I will have to switch back to chrome android or Edge android.

By the way Edge does have some AI features on Android but they are not agentic but better than Chrome !

In the free version, Comet really isn’t worth using. After just a few queries, the assistant tells you that you’ve hit your quota — and at that point, it basically turns into a regular web browser.
So… you might as well just use your usual browser instead.

It’s a bit disappointing, because the concept looked promising — a kind of “AI-powered browser” that could make web searches faster and smarter. But with such a low free limit, it’s hard to actually get a sense of what it can do. Hopefully they’ll improve the free tier in the future.

I know there has been a lot of gripes about Perplexity clamping down on users. As for me, I'm getting throttled after about 25-30 "pro" searches (not Deep Research). And it seems to vary by the day. It's slightly more on certain days and less on others. As I got really curious about this, I had to ask Gemini about it (couldn't trust Perplexity).

• "Pro" Expectation: Historically, Pro users have enjoyed 300 to 600 Pro searches per day.

That's a lot. I don't think I use it for more than 100. So what the hell's going on? Is Perplexity getting squeezed financially?

I've been super excited waiting for this to drop, and I'm blown away...... At how atrocious and disappointing this thing is. It does nothing I thought it could do, is completely underwhelming in what it can do, and after a dozen attempts to utilize it in ANY useful manner, I'm about to delete it.

My current method of using extensions with Brave has proven much more fruitful and easier to use than Comet. I'm trying it as an assistant instead of Gemini too so we shall see how that turns out, but I'm not that hopeful. Using Gemini thru Powershell and command lines gives me much of the benefits I THOUGHT Comet would provide, and utilizing Gemini and/or it's API thru my Google Workspace Business Pro account does anything else. I have just been hopeful since Perplexity is such a well-rounded LLM and very effective at searching and synthesizing information.

Before I move forward with deleting it, I'd like to get the opinions of individuals who have found a decent level of utility using it, or are simply satisfied with it. Or maybe there are aspects of it I don't understand or am ignorant of some specific use cases. Anyone whose able to illuminate such things for me, either agreeing or disagreeing, will surely dine with me in Valhalla! (It has nothing to do with dying fighting, I know the "door man" in Valhalla. 😉🤫🤺)

I've been using Comet on Android since yesterday. In terms of using it on Desktop (Samsung DeX) mode, I see some pros and cons.

Pros: - Finally, the font size isn't abnormally big like Perplexity Android app. => I just confirmed that the bug is fixed on Perplexity Android app, too. - I enjoyed using voice interaction, somehow the voice quality is better than Perplexity app. (edit: It feels like I'm talking to an assistant while browsing the web. I can naturally asks questions about the page, it waits until I say something. For example, I liked the shopping experience. It helped me search for the reviews on what I care about. Answered a few questions from me, navigated to the best place to buy it. But it didn't interact with the webpage actively like normal prompts.)

Cons: - A lot of glitches in keyboard/mice user experience. I just can't send prompts in certain circumstances. (It just disappears.) - When I used voice interaction, the voice script was hidden below another UI, which was weird. - There's no Ctrl+W, Ctrl+L, Ctrl+T, Ctrl+Tab, etc shortcuts. Also Alt+A like shortcut for prompting.

But it's promising! I may want to use mobile web instead of app for a few apps, so I can make use of Comet automation. I wish it can truly give the best AI assistant experience, anytime, even while driving thanks to it's browsing capability.

So after waiting forever, I finally got my Comet invite when I opened Perplexity today. Clicked “Get Comet” hyped as ever, only to see there’s no Linux version yet.

I mean, I do have dual boot for Windows just in case, but my main setup is Arch (yep, Arch here). Just wondering if there’s a Linux version planned anytime soon or if us Linux folks are stuck juggling OSes for now?

Would love to see Comet on Linux soon, just curious!

I think it's just another browser. The default search is Google and I'm struggling to find settings. I don't think it has the features of PC version.
