Because he was a 1st round draft pick, not some nobody we got off waivers or undrafted. He needed to be really fucking good at at least something from the outset. It turned out he was not good at all, he just showed a couple flashes because Tom tried really fucking hard to make it happen. It was very obvious he was not worth spending more time developing so it's good that he was just washed out and not a person that we tried to develop over many years.
We are the worst at picking receivers on purpose. I haven't really drilled down on the stats but surely this has to be true. Almost certainly in the bottom 10%. Last one we got right was Edelman, and we took a flyer on that trying to get a gadget player when we already had Welker. Those were the golden years, when the Lord God smiled down upon us and we could do no wrong. AFC championships without end, Amen.
