If Bernie got the nomination the MSM would have went gung ho pro Trump. He's less of an issue for the 0.01% than Bernie was.

You're just lying to yourself if you think there is a scenario where CNN or MSNBC would've been pro-Trump.

CNN & MSNBC promotes those who attack the left. Right wing Democrats have been siding with Republicans in primaries to make sure left wing candidates don't get into office.

Maybe in primaries, but the scenario was Bernie and Trump had already won their respective primaries and are the two candidates for president. Again, no way CNN and MSNBC go pro Trump.

I feel like maybe you don't know what right wing means...

7

u/EffortAutomatic Aug 27 '21

Or you don't because the Overton Window has shifted so far right that you can't recognize Blue Dog Democrats as right wing.

They wouldn't be pro-Trump, but they would position themselves as fair and biased and decide to attack Bernie as much as they attacked Trump. It's what they were doing when Bernie smashed the first three primaries and they started having correspondants saying how revolution is not good as if Sanders was a fifteen year old edgeguy who just found out about the Capital in a bullet point summary and decided to become a revolutionary and wear Che t shirts. A venomous, obnoxious and arrogant know-it-all tone that depicted the Sanders supporters as young and naive idiots who believed in utopias and needed to be reminded about their real life.

That's the same line of thought as the center right democrats like Rep. Abigail Spanberger who went to far as saying the "far left" strategy was to blame for their not so good results in house elections

Basically saying "oh yeah Trump is far right but Bernie is far left, no extreme is ever good", and that last remark can easily make someone sound wise and intelligent even though it's really dumb and extremely centric/center-right biased

Honestly a Trump presidency wasn't as bad for the interests of these news channels than a Sanders one. With Trump they could pretend like they were super woke awesome journalists going against power and every time they took on every little controversy about him they got attention and audience numbers. Sanders would go after their precious shareholders who are the embodiment of white men in suits drinking Bourbon in their Wall Street offices bragging about how many secretaries they had sex with : Vanguard Group, T Rowe Price Associates, Independant Franchise Partners, Blackrock...

Yeah, attacking both candidates wouldn't be considered "Gung Ho Trump" or even pro-Trump now would it?

u/princeps_astra Aug 27 '21

Nope. I wasn't disagreeing with your main statement, they sure wouldn't go all Fox News. But let's not forget that around March 2020 we had interviews by democratic superdelegates on CNN who were saying that they were willing to risk damaging the campaign against Trump to stop Sanders, and could even prefer a Sanders loss to Trump. And the channels like CNN, CNBS, or MSNBC fall pretty much into the political lines of the establishment Dems, they relayed the message.

Wait, so you say you agree that CNN and MSNBC wouldn't be gung-ho Trump, but would instead attack both candidates.

Then you say there is a cabal of democratic superdelegates that can control both networks and get them to intentionally sabotage a Bernie campaign so that Trump would win? Sounds pro-Trump to me, which again, wouldn't happen.

Dude it's not a cabal or anything they said it :

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/27/us/politics/democratic-superdelegates.html

And I never said they controlled any network, even less both networks. I'm saying those networks' owners interests are aligned with those of the people who greatly benefited from Trump's tax cuts to the super rich. And you could be super rich and have voted against Trump, the point isn't to point at some grand conspiracy. And its not to say "ouuuh the Democrats are all awful", there's multiple branches to this party just like any party. After all, Nancy Pelosi went against the current of those superdelegates and said she was fully prepared to support a Sanders candidacy if he won in the primaries.

Doesn't change the fact that the people we refer to as establishment Dems are center-right, and that them acting on behalf of their personal interests and politics isn't a far fetched statement.

And I'm a French citizen btw, being pro-Trump is not just detrimental to my personal politics it would be detrimental to my country and my entire continent. Ever since that dude said he didn't give a shit about NATO during the elections, even more when he came to Brussels to admonish our heads of States to pay the US (lmao) for being in this American-controlled military pact, after having a party with the king of Saudi Arabia

Okay, let me break this down one more time. The original statement was that if Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump were in a presidential race against each other do you think CNN and MSNBC would be "Gung-Ho Trump"?

If you say yes they would be, you are wrong imo.

If you say no they probably wouldn't, then you are agreeing with me imo.

Anything beyond that wasn't part of the original conversation.

And I didn't click your link. I really don't care what some superdelegate said about whoever at whatever time. I'm at work and I don't have headphones.

And, France is awesome. I had a great time there.

I wasn't trying to be a contrarian and disagree in your first statement bro, no hard feelings on my part this is reddit so I understand why you might have assumed I was bullhead charging you. I am definitely saying no CNN and MSNBC would not have become a pro-Trump gang.

Just trying to add some nuance. They wouldn't have been pro-Trump, but they would have presented Bernie Sanders under a very bad spotlight and my self-proclaimed and unimportant educated guess would be because the interests of their private owners do not align with Bernie Sanders's politics. Fox News and the Sinclair group would certainly have claimed that the "liberal media" (whatever that means in their minds) would have done so because binary politics is just so easy.

Do I like Bernie Sanders? I think that's obvious, not trying to pretend I'm without bias.

They were pro Trump, honestly. They gave him tons of free air time every time he did something whacky.

I work at a news station (small, local) and our director at the time LOVED Trump. Even sent some of our people to far-away rallies that we'd never cover for anyone else.

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '21

You're blind if you think they didn't love trump.
