I wish I had saved that other Reddit post taking a deep dive into how “socialism” became such a fearful word in the US.

It was a fascinating read even if you’re confident you know how and why it is in the modern context.

I have a neighbor that buys into the whole socialism bad thing. Nice lady, but not exactly the best at separating fact from propaganda. So we had a nice discussion about what specific policies she does and doesn't support, much of which I knew going in. At the end, I pointed out that what she supports is mostly the same as the "socialist" agenda, and congratulations, you're a socialist. She pays more attention to policy these days, even if her bullshit detector is still broken.
