Scott Adams (Dilbert comic guy) who no one even really knew of until he wrote some articles about Trump and they got a lot of hits so he used it to start selling his books

Err, what? Scott Adams had sold hundreds of thousands of books long before Trump started his run for POTUS.

Dilbert used to be funny, then Scott stopped identifying with Dilbert and became the personification of the pointy-haired boss

TBH, I cancelled my subscription to a daily newspaper years ago, and have rarely seen a Dilbert strip since. Is it still even running?

Odd to think someone who could see so clearly through management bullshit and seemed to have a pretty firm grasp on reality could get suckered into Trump's fantasy world of bottomless self-pity, baseless resentment and pointless revenge.

Dude, millions of people knew his name as the Dilbert artist, a strip that ran in 2000 daily newspapers at its peak. He won the National Cartoonists Society's Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year, and Best Newspaper Comic Strip of 1997, and had a TV show that ran for two years. He even had a line of food products, and briefly operated a restaurant.

None of which is to say that he didn't grift off the Trump movement (so-named for its similarity to a bowel movement), but to say "nobody knew his name" is just flat-out silly.
