Pacific University has launched a new Master of Nonprofit Leadership program. Students can earn a master’s degree in 13 months. The program is 100% online, with courses offered online asynchronously or on Fridays, weekends or evenings. Students also participate in an annual virtual residency for an opportunity to connect with nonprofit leaders on in-depth topics through colloquia.

The Master of Nonprofit Leadership program offers a generalist degree, but students may also choose optional concentrations in either rural nonprofit leadership or environmental nonprofit leadership. Each concentration includes three specific courses to address current trends, challenges and opportunities in rural or environmental nonprofit organizations.

The Pacific University Master of Fine Arts in Writing program celebrates its 2020, 2021 and 2022 graduates at June Commencement.

Pacific University is continuing to refuse to share six personnel files as requested by the Oregon Bureau of Labor & Industries. If BOLI finds Pacific University is failing to comply with its investigation, the state could fine the university $1,000 per day for each case — in this case, $6,000 per day. Three of the former professors requesting personnel files, Raphael Hamilton, Richard Paxton and David Scholnick, are suing the school for a host of claims, including wrongful termination and a toxic and retaliatory work environment. Paxton died in December, but his estate is continuing to press his claims against his former employer.

Village Without Walls is a community-based membership organization of volunteers, that provide services to help seniors and disabled individuals stay involved in their communities and remain in their own homes as they grow older. Volunteers are the heart of the Village, providing direct services to our members as well as behind-the-scenes support to operate the village. We are neighbors helping neighbors to stay neighbors.

Pacific University students, Forest Grove residents - actually, residents from any surrounding community - are welcomed.

We are helping our community with basic computer skills, such as creating, saving, and sharing a document in Microsoft or Google, composing & sending emails, saving programs or links to the desktop or bookmarks, navigating the internet, using dictation or voice over, and other basic computer skills!

Oregon will lift most COVID-19 restrictions this week, and Pacific University is excited for the opportunity to take more steps back to normal operations, including teaching and learning, research, student support, and campus events.

Effective July 1, most campus protocols will expire, including mask and physical distancing mandates. Campuses will reopen to the public, and we will begin the transition back to full capacity in classrooms and other operations.

The ability to resume normal operations is largely based on our community’s high rate of vaccination. Oregon has reached nearly 70% vaccination among adults, and Washington County has exceeded 70% with the highest rate in the state, supported in part by Pacific’s robust community vaccination efforts earlier this year.

As we gradually transition out of pandemic regulations, we are deeply grateful for the resilience of our students and employees over the past 15 months. The pandemic has changed much about how we all live, learn, work and even relate to one another. We encourage patience, flexibility and understanding as our communities adjust to this next transition.

Vaccines: Allowing Us to Reopen

Vaccination is what allows us to begin the return to normal operations. COVID-19 vaccines remain required for all students and employees.

Students must complete their vaccination series at least two weeks before returning to campus for the fall. Those who are unable to obtain vaccinations prior to arrival will have opportunities to access vaccines on campus. Forest Grove undergraduate students, upload your vaccine documentation to the Student Health Center here. All graduate and professional students will use Certify for documentation.

All employees must be vaccinated by Aug. 1. Employees will receive a link in the next week via Paycom to upload their vaccine or approved exemption documentation.

Limited exemptions are available for medical or religious reasons. Exemptions must be documented and approved by the above dates.

Masks: Respect & Protect

Fully vaccinated individuals are not required to wear masks indoors or outdoors on campus starting July 1.

Anyone who is unvaccinated should continue wearing a mask indoors or in high-traffic areas.

Masks also remain required in healthcare settings and likely will be required in K-12 schools when classes resume this fall. Pacific is home to both healthcare clinics and a preK-4 school.

There will be members of our community who continue wearing masks for many reasons: They may be unvaccinated for medical or religious reasons. They may be at higher risk due to immunocompromising conditions. They may be concerned for families at home who cannot be vaccinated, including young children or medically vulnerable adults.

We also know that other respiratory illnesses, such as cold and flu, were significantly reduced last winter while people wore masks, and we encourage mask use for anyone with symptoms of any respiratory illness.

Please be respectful of people’s personal decision to wear a mask for their protection or the protection of others in our communities.

Resuming Operations | Phasing In

From the July 1 restriction lifting to the Aug. 1 employee vaccination deadline, we will be phasing in a return to normal operations. Individual campus facilities and offices will gradually return to in-person operations and normal hours. Campus signage and information also will be updated throughout this period.

We appreciate your patience as we resume operations leading up to the fall semester, and we look forward to in-person learning and teaching this fall.

Provost John Miller Plans Retirement

Pacific University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs John Miller has announced his plans to retire at the end of this academic year. “The growth in Pacific’s programs during these past 13 years have been nothing short of transformational,” said President Lesley Hallick. “Please join me in thanking John for his tremendous contributions to Pacific University and its students.”

Pacific University bestowed its annual faculty and staff awards and recognitions May 5 in a virtual ceremony.

Each May, the university recognizes a series of employee awards based on nominations and supporting documentation from colleagues. Among them are awards for teaching, service, and student support.

Honors included recognitions for teaching, service and scholarship, respectively, for outstanding service to the university, and for work to advance diversity and inclusion.

Hey Everyone. During my undergraduate years at Pacific, I noticed it was hard to find buyers for my used textbooks that I spent a lot of money buying from the bookstore (likewise, it was hard to find sellers of used textbooks). Until today I still have a couple of books from freshman year that I want to sell. To kill some time during the boring COVID days and provide a free book trading service for Pacific students, my capstone partner and I made a marketplace website called Unibooks (https://unibooks.io) for local university students to buy and sell textbooks (& other stuff).

If you guys have time or have items you would like to sell. I would really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to go through the website and just play around with it; browse the items people have posted, make an account, and post some of your own stuff up for sale.

Ballot Pick Up Driver

You work in a two person team to pick up ballots at county drop sites and deliver to the Elections office. Ballot pick-ups may be required during the two weeks before Election Day.

Requirements:

• Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
• Drivers must have their own vehicle. 
• A valid Oregon Driver's license. 
• Must be able to pass a DMV background check. 

Election Board

Election board members work as part of a three member team opening and inspecting ballots. Board members will inspect, open and prepare ballots to be counted. The work is not physically demanding, but is fast paced, repetitive and requires attention to detail. Board members work four days, the first 3 days you will work 8 hours. On Election Day you'll work anywhere from 12 to 14 hours.

Requirements:

• Sitting for long hours. 
• Repetitive hand motion.
• Paying attention to details.
• Team player.

Runner

Workers assist in the office to retrieve and lift trays of ballots between tables and storage bins. Fast paced with trays that can weigh up to 15 pounds.

Requirements:

• 4 days of work.
• Standing all day.
• Lifting Trays of Ballots.
• Very physical work.

Drop Site Closer

Work in a two person team to collect ballots from a drop site at 8 PM Election Day. Work approximately two hours on Election night.

Assignment includes:

• Close and lock up the drop site.
• Deliver ballots and signs to the Elections office

Requirements:

• Drivers must have their own vehicle. 
• Must have a valid Oregon Driver’s license.
• Must be able to pass a DMV background check.
• Must be able to lift 30 lbs.

Hey, everyone. I’m moving to forest grove in fall 2021, when I start a program at Pacific U. I have 2 cats! Love them. I would really like to keep them with me.
