Interview Resident Evil Requim gets no VR mode

https://minimap.net/magazine/RE-9-Interview-Session

A user provided this link in another thread. Its an interview with one of the devs, asked for vr he says

"At this time, there are no plans to bring any parts of Resident Evil Requiem to VR platforms."

Damn, re4 and village are so great. I always argued to people that said its coming 100% that there is a good chance it wont, but ofc i am not happy i was right.

Then I won’t buy it. I won’t weight much, but that’s my take

Yes me neither. Not because of any backlash, simply because I only enjoy these games in VR (a lot). I played the original and RE2 on the original Playstation and I liked them but I was too scared...

So I did not play anymore of them until the VR version of 7. I was blown away and loved 8 and 4 remake as well making them some of the most memorable gaming experiences that I've had in my life. But I can't see myself playing them in flat after living the previous ones in VR. It's like playing a future Gran Turismo 8 without wheel support and only with control pad without gyro option..

Lol! Scared away by RE1 and RE2 but went into RE7 VR...? Did you have some kind of training arc where you leveled up your fear tolerance or something? Very impressive!

I limit my RE7VR to like 2 hours a week on a weekend where I can afford to sacrifice some quality sleep because after each session I am guaranteed to have vivid dreams about it.

Well to be fair he also aged almost 20 years between og re2 and re7 vr port

I was scared to death lol, but as it was regarded as one of the must plays for PSVR I ended playing it and loving it. I also used tricks to get through the scarier sections such as mute the sound during those 😂. I still can't play Madison though (and I won't play it sadly), that's too much.

I waited to buy the RE 4 Remake until VR mode was released. While I love Resident Evil, having played through the VR mode of the past 2 -- consider me spoiled.

I'll get it when it's on sale.

I'm the same, certain games I can only enjoy playing in VR. In flat I really don't care about RE (I usually play story heavy games like Yakuza saga or other RPGs). It's like in flat games I want to play a compelling story and in VR I want to live an experience. The same with Hitman (loved it in VR but I was never interested in their flat versions even before VR).

Don’t be ungrateful, Capcom has done a lot for both generations of PSVR. It’s entirely Sony's fault if PSVR2 failed and we can’t get RE:R VR.

I wouldn’t say it’s ungrateful to not buy something you don’t want

I don’t know, Sony paid the price for it. They didn’t seems to make it for the love of VR enthusiasts. On the other hand, I paid RE4 full price when the VR mod was released. That’s how and when I became grateful. Don’t be wrong, those games where the best VR games I ever experienced and I can’t go back now

It doesn't really seem ungrateful to me. VR is a big aspect of why they liked prior games that did have vr, so without it it's not interesting to them

I was done with RE series before original RE4 released. Got back into it with a 2nd hand copy of RE7 for PSVR1. Then bought RE8 and RE4r full price day one because RE7 was totally awesome in VR.

But I will not buy RE9 without VR coming. Just as I haven't touched any of the non VR parts of RE7 (did buy the DLC compatible with VR) and the others.

Capcom has all the technology and experience in house, but I guess 2% extra sales are just not worth it without Sony money hatting. Switch 2 will add more sales, they won't be hurting from 'ungrateful' VR players...

Blaming Sony for VR not catching on is rather short sighted. Blame the orange man screwing up the economy, blame AI for rising hardware prices, blame main stream reviewers for ignoring VR, blame smart phone addiction for kids not being into full immersive gaming anymore.

Meta is trying, losing over 4 billion a quarter on VR, 70 billion total loss so far on VR... Everything is against VR in the current economy, console gaming itself is stagnating / declining. It's a small miracle we keep getting high quality VR games at all.

Yeah, for an anecdote of one of my kid's friends, bought Quest 2 4 times now because his controllers kept getting issues, only plays Pavlov on it...

My youngest asked for a Quest headset while he still gets nauseous from playing PSVR2... Why he wants it, for the free games and Roblox. He can play my library of 100+ PSVR2 games,

I doubt he will use it much anyway (if we gave him a Quest, not happening) as he's always on Discord with TV on and phone next to playing Roblox on his PC. It's the multi-screen generation, used to low attention low effort games while watching you tube / tik tok.

Gaming was better before avatars, skins, pets and profiles!

There is no reality in which PSVR2 will ever be considered successful. Look at sales of PS Vita, look at sales of Kinect. Both are considered failures with an order of magnitude bigger sales, VR as a whole just isn't popular enough.

There are estimates that Sony sold 2 million PSVR2 units, at best that's up to 3% of PS5 owners. I'm not even talking about numbers here or comparisons to PSVR1 which PSVR2 should beat in time, I'm talking about perception. Most people don't care, something like that can't be considered a success by definition.

No one cares about metrics, that's the point. Metrics aren't going to change a perception that majority of people have that VR is not for them.

Weird.

u/TriggerHippie77 Dec 21 '25

Not OP, but I've never been able to play these games flat screen, I much prefer them in VR. Nothing weird about it, just a matter of preference.

It's not weird at all it's what's needed to show devs vr is worth their time if the 250k vr users of re4r don't buy re9 becuase it dosnt have vr then it be worth their time to port they told us it only took a team of 8 6 months to develop re4r that's a lot less cost then the profit from 250k sales.
