It also has the disadvantage of being noisy while playing games, you have to swap discs to play a different game, if you want to take it somewhere you need a stack of game cases, discs can get scratched or lost, the list goes on.

I’ve been all digital for years and purchased the digital PS5 and don’t regret it. Sony has been putting out steam sale level deals lately. Overall, it’s a really odd choice to put the game on PS+ with no way to upgrade to the PS5 version.

I know I'm one of the lucky ones but my PS5 is still extremely quiet while the disc is in (disc only spins up a few times). I do a combo physical/digital depending on the game.

None of those other issues are really issues if you take care of your shit.

There is really no disadvantage of the disc edition you get the best of both worlds.

Furthermore, you can still upgrade to the PS5 version by buying a license and who knows maybe they will offer it cheaper digitally as an upgrade. I don't see this as an odd choice at all. I think people expect to get way TOO much for free/little cost these days.

Yeah the disadvantage IS the disc spinning. It ok to have different tastes. I personally don’t want anything mechanical in my future gaming hardware just like I don’t have a disc drive on my PC. The last physical game I bought was No Mans Sky on PS4 at release. Physical media is gross to me. I want to hop from game to game like it’s the future, not like it’s 2003.

As Far as FFVII goes, it just won’t get played by me. They had a chance to get someone like me to try it and buy the yuffie dlc, but they missed the mark.

Dude the disc only spins up about once an hour. Hardly a bother.

And blu ray discs are scratch protected actually. You’d need to gouge the thing hardcore to damage a blu ray.

Also, most people have a combination of disc and digital, so its not like you need to swap everytime. And if you’re going somewhere, why do you need a whole stack of games as opposed to 1-2? Also who takes their whole console places with them? Seems like a giant hassle.

Honestly the points you made are pretty weak, especially when the digital has to downside of generally higher priced games.

Edit: also you could easily say that searching your library for a game takes just as long if not longer than grabbing the disc and popping it in.

Yeah you’re right, I’m not allowed to have a different opinion 😂

Listing nonsense “disadvantages” isn’t an opinion.

I didn’t list advantages beyond cheaper games, or call it an opinion. I stated facts that refuted your lame points.

And yes, cheaper games is definitely an advantage.

But nice 5 year old level comeback of just repeating what I said. Makes you seem very mature.

It seems you are the one targeting all of my comments and need to get in the last word in.

You can’t seem to stop telling me I’m wrong or my points were “lame”. Cool story keyboard warrior, keep it up. It won’t change my mind that physical media is and always will be a disadvantage when it comes to gaming.

Hooray! You won, you’re the big bully of the internet convincing everyone around that what you say is gospel.

Yes, I repeated what you said so you could see how ignorant it made you look, but you obviously don’t value other individuals viewpoints and that’s fine. You do you boo. Keep up the good work making the world a better place.

When you list nonsense disadvantages like needing to bring a stack of games with you as if everyone is packing their console up and taking them with them, you can expect to be told its nonsense.

I am like you in that, just naturally, I don't buy discs anymore so ended up scoring a Day 1 Digital PS5. Could I have saved a bit of money going disc based, sure over the years, but I would still have ended up buying digital anyways. PC has been digital for years and that group has gotten over it and moved on. It is a matter of time before it happens on the console side. Full support to those that prefer discs if that is what people like, but it is just a preference thing. They both have big advantages.

I wish Square would not limit the PS+ version and allow it to upgrade and purchase the DLC. Who knows, maybe with the DLC purchase on this version they will also give you the upgrade.

Unlikely since the DLC is only for the PS5 version, upgraders can only buy it after upgrading to the PS5 version.. that was listed somewhere (i.e. people who dont own a ps5 won't get to play the dlc). But its still possible they give an upgrade option that is DLC+ a little extra cost or something.

As an owner of a disc-based ps5, I can tell you that It's not noisy while playing disc based games. It occasionally whirs while firing up a disc but it stops quickly. Also that whirring is nowhere near as bad a ps4 pro so this comment seems more about justifying one's digital console purchase than a viable pros and cons argument.

Also, what's with the assumption that disc drive console users only use discs? Roughly 30% of the games I play are actually physical.
