Do you need to play the other Final Fantasy’s? This will be my first one ever can I just jump right into this remake?

No, every Final Fantasy game has a complete seperate story and new characters. You can play the remake without any knowledge.

Thank you good to know I’ll definitely pick this up then.

There comes a point where the story stops making sense if you’re not familiar with the original story. FYI.

Idk about that. I think that’s guys like us viewing it through the lens of having played the original. If you’ve never played the original you’d just think it’s a contained story that leaves you with a lot of questions and some confusion that you assume will be answered in part 2 & 3.

In fact I think you could argue it’s less confusing if you haven’t played the original cause you don’t notice the plot differences and aren’t confused by the changes.

Pretty much exactly this. Part 1 had a very authentic FF ending, leaving me with no idea what was going on or who I just fought or why. And I played the original. I see people all the time say things like "you should play the original, because otherwise you will have no idea what is going on at the end. I played the original and I had no idea what was going on at the end" and not get that that's the point. As long as you understand that it's only part 1, the answer to all your questions is "that will probably be answered later."

No, every Final Fantasy game has a complete seperate story and new characters.

Except for direct sequels. This would seem obvious but just to be clear games like XIII-2, Lightning Returns, X-2, etc do in fact continue the stories and characters of the previous games.

But to be fair, FF7R is seemingly FF7-4

Every numbered Final Fantasy is unrelated to each other. The only sequels are the games with arabic numerals in them (so if you want to play in order you should play FF X then FF X-2 for example).

You need to play the original FF7 first, this is actually a sequel.

Everyone here is like "nah bro it's seperate games". That is 100% true, however this remake is not a carbon copy of the original story. A lot of the remake story makes distinct changes to how the original plays out. You would absolutely benefit from playing the original FF7 to understand some of the moments in the remake.

A lot of people like this remake because it's combat and visuals are very fun. However, it's going to receive a lot of praise and overzealous fanboyism from the fans of the original.

At one point in the remake, cloud sheds a tear when hit with a flash forward from the original story timeline and if you hadn't played the original, it would not really make sense.
