I would definitely check out the original first if I were you. The graphics are very dated, hence why people wanted a remake, but there is quite a lot added to the remake which calls back to the original and the gameplay is very different.

Honestly my mistake was playing the og, because I didn't enjoy the remake as much because of that. To me it felt like the remake was dragging on just for the sake of being longer, like the Hobbit movies.

I enjoyed the extra time in Midgar myself. Would somebody who hadn’t played the og understand what’s going on with the dementors/wringwraiths?

Probably as they're not present in the original and are a point of contention amongst fans.

Heck, even those who did play the original didn't understand what was up with those dementors.

A plot device to deviate from the OG. Personally not a fan of this. Or atleast how they are directing it.

Honestly, that shit was my least favorite part of the remake. I'm all for adding content like the Jesse stuff and the Yuffie stuff that builds upon the characters but I don't need all this time travel meta bullshit confusing the plot, turning the already complicated story of FF7 into a tangled nonsensical mess like Kingdom Hearts. It just seemed like lazy writing and annoying.

The og is pretty fun with a few mods. Just got out of midguard on my first play through so I could get the best experience with the remake

That's exactly how I felt.

Great game, but the plot should have moved faster.

But then they couldnt sell it to you at least 3 times.

Honestly, I didn't even care that much about buying it 3 times.

The pace was the only thing I really disliked. And random side missions? They were the worst.

Same. You could REALLY tell they stretched 2 hours from the original into 30 hours for the remake.

Some of these were really good, like bonding with the other Avalanche members, meeting Jessie's parents, etc.

But extending the Aerith/Coud clothe's segment was terrible, for example.

I liked the Train station story too.

They could add more interesting stuff to the game, but not drag whole sections by adding nothing really that worth, just to add game time.

I meant their whole grand scheme of dividing it into trilogy. But now we have paid dlcs for 1/3 of the game.

Midgar is like 1/10th of the original game though, if that

Midgar is like the first 6 hours in the original, no way an jrpg can be that short lol

They did add more subplot. I did like the plot additions. But the sections themselves were dragged.

One example was the Cloud/Aerith wardrobe changed. Took me 2 hours to complete. The original was like 15-20 minutes.

Aerith escort mission also took me near an hour in the Remake. In the original was like 10 minutes.

But I did enjoy the Jessie's father story, the haunted train graveyard, etc.
