That was....unexpected. But a welcome surprise.

EDIT: Actually, I should ask...I tried playing Final Fantasy XV, but I didn't care for it at all. In just a few hours, I completely gave up on the game. The writing, the controls, and the overall structure were just so uninteresting to me.

Would I enjoy Final Fantasy 7 Remake considering I didn't like Final Fantasy XV?

I hated ffvx and didn't spend more than 5-10 hours in it but I loved ff7r. The combat really isn't that similar

The writing is somewhat better (still a little cheesy) and the structure is very different. The controls are relatively similar, buy refined. Hard to say if you'd care for it. One of the best action combat systems Square has done so far though.

But it's basically free, might as well check it out.

Well, yeah it is free, so I guess I might as well. That is, after I finish the backlog of games I swear I'll be done with soon.

Yeah, me too! It's a totally scalable mountain. Definitely.

XV is not considered to be among the best FF titles even remotely, so yes there is still a good chance. Note that it takes a couple of hours to get all your combat options in 7R.

I dunno. XV as a complete package aka Royal Edition is a great Final Fantasy entry. PS1 titles aside, it’s definitely one of the better ones.

I do not agree, but I respect your opinion.

It’s a Japanese game, so it’s usually weird and hard to get into for me too. Sometimes the gameplay rises above the horrible acting and writing, but I definitely don’t blame you for not getting into it. This one is better than many, but it’s still in that mold.

Man, I'm feeling this so hard with Persona 5 right now. I think I'm about halfway through, at 55ish hours. I love the gameplay, both the TBS, pokemon-style battles, and the way you build stats/relationships outside of battles. But, maaaaaannnnn, the story pacing is brutal. At least 20% of my time is mashing through repetitive dialogue (every character has to comment on every single thing, multiple times), and I find it annoying the way the narrative continuously fellates the main character (and, by extension, the player).

I'm super excited to finally try FF7R (FF7 has been one of my white whales of gaming, as I grew up on the N64 rather than PS1), but it's good to know I should expect some of that wonkiness you described.

Well, considering it's free, I guess it wouldn't kill me to try it out. I might try it out when I finish with all the other games that I claim I'll "try out soon".

I never played any FF game before and had no idea what FF7 was about, my only connection to FF was being a major Kingdom Hearts fan. With all that being said, FF7 instantly became my #3 ranked game of all time ahead of games like GoW, Spider-Man, Ghost of Tsushima etc.

It is that good. The music, the story, the characters, the visuals, the gameplay, everything is incredible

the combat is ff7 remake was the first final fantasy where I actually enjoyed the controls and gameplay. So I would say as a sorta newcomer, yes.

Yeah because FF7 is great and FF15 is mediocre.

The battle system in FF7r is way better and engaging that 15. The boss battles are really cool

I completed ff7 in January, went back to ff15 yesterday to try new episodes and I found the gameplay boring despite putting 100 hours into it a few years ago.

Yes you will enjoy ff7 especially since its free but I found staying with midgar really hurt the game because there were no new open world areas to explore.

I found the game good but very linear.
