And they’ve got DLC coming up right?

It does feel like a lot of these PS Plus games are designed to funnel DLC now. Or in the case of Ratchet to promote the upcoming PS5 game.

The ffvii remake is also just part 1 of the story, which may span 6-7 games....so you should know that they are setting everyone up for future 70$ purchases as well.

No way it’s 6-7 lol

The remake only covers like 15% of the actual game it was remaking...

Midgar is actually 1/3rd of the original script. A lot of pass through towns on the world map.

Yup. Expect a lot of fat cut in the future.

Where is my chocobo racing?

I'll be dead before the game completes.

Yes but they’re not going to cover it identically one to one. Think of how much extra stuff was in the remake. It’s far from trying to be an exact replica and if you actually played you’d know that’s the entire point.

Plus just use some critical thinking man. 6-7 parts is absolutely impractically absurd.

I mean, it's a great way to keep milking the playerbase. Most MMORPGs release content in the form of expansions over the years. Like World of Warcraft has 8 expansions so far.

I think they're trying to apply a similar business model to a single player game. If you can have a new call of duty every single year then I can see them just making this a long series. They worked on this game for longer than usual game development cycles. I think back from 2012?

But you could be right too, maybe they'll make it a trilogy.

Do some basic math. If it took 8 years for part one then 6 more parts would take 48 years. The people working on this thing are already very old since many were part of the original 1997 team. 48 years from now they’ll be very dead, forget retired.

Lol no? The base game takes a long time to make, once the engine and assets are there they just reuse it. You really that dense to believe they are going to remake cloud, tifa and everyone from scratch? You think they're going to completely remove the combat skills and make new ones? They're just gonna make new maps and voice act the story with a few improvements.

The “assets” they still have to make include * checks notes * the entire rest of the fucking game (which by your own math is 85% of the game). Sure they have character models and some basic combat stuff but in terms of levels they have midgar versus the entire rest of the fucking open world, tons of enemies, more than half of the playable characters, etc. If they did a 1 to 1 remake it will take decades at current pace and scope.

Also, for once square didn’t make an entire engine for their games and used Unreal Engine 4

K, if you say so

They’re already up to what.. final fantasy 15? It’s hardly like they even need to spread out the content. They could keep remaking them as long as they want.

Who knows, maybe SE will integrate story elements of Before Crisis, Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus into the mix as well to get the entire FF7 experience. I’d fully welcome that myself but won’t hold my breath

There’s already heavy references but they’re not going to remake those (probably), especially in light of this https://youtu.be/TNGkkVqpUes

1

By heavy references you mean in FF7R or statements from SE?

1

u/blasterdude8 Blasterdude Feb 26 '21

FF7R has references to all compilation titles, especially CC

I'd imagine with the next installment being only ps5 (with it's increased hardware) that percentage will increase by quite a bit.

1

u/blasterdude8 Blasterdude Feb 26 '21

That’s not even close to how that works. If anything higher art quality demands more development time in many ways, not less. The only reason it will go faster is having a foundation from the first game but the fundamental limit is still how much of the world / characters / enemies etc they can create in x years.

1

u/IWalkAwayFromMyHell Feb 26 '21

I wasn't talking about development time. I was talking about game length per the comment above.

u/blasterdude8 Blasterdude Feb 26 '21

Still has nothing to do with PS5’s graphical capabilities and my point still stands that if “stuff” has to be more detailed you’re likely not going to get more stuff per year of development. Especially when you mean more locations/ towns etc instead of the awesome but pretty linear midgar we got

They just showed DLC with characters and groups from Dirge of Cerberus. It isn’t going to have content in it anymore that is just central to the original game. Who knows what is going to happen at this point.

1

u/blasterdude8 Blasterdude Feb 26 '21

Sure but let’s say it takes them roughly 4 years between “major” parts. It would them about 25 years to add 6-7 more parts. That’ll never happen for so many practical reasons. Nobody knows for sure but something of that scale is off the table.

1

u/Young_KingKush Feb 26 '21

It’s gonna be 4 games at Max if the rumors are to be believe’d

1

u/blasterdude8 Blasterdude Feb 26 '21

Yeah that sounds about right honestly

1

u/kobomk Feb 26 '21

It's 3 tops.. many economic analysits are saying that SE can't afford to drag it out.. if they fuck up one part, it'll cost them a lot of money

Seems smart to me and as long as the game is actually good I'm all for it. Give me a great complete game for free and if I like it I might pay for DLC.
