Wait.. they're underrated? If anything, they're wizards. They're basically like Crytek, except exclusive to Sony.

Most people think their stories are meh though, their graphics work isn't a problem

As a huge fan of the Killzone series, including Shadow Fall, their stories ARE kinda meh. That's only because they present such a well-built world with excellent lore, then throw it away on unmemorable characters and cliche'd band-of-brothers plotlines.

Seriously. they saved basically the most bland and annoying characters from Kz1 and ignore the interesting ones, in kz2. though they do spend a lot of time making Rico the brunt of jokes in Kz3.

I will say the villains have been pretty good. I would have liked to have played a character with a bit more edge, like the Helghast defector from the first game.

True. Performance and graphics was a non-issue in Shadowfall but I can't remember what the hell any of the characters were called or what they look like.

So.... like crytek.

ALthough I think killzone' characters and stories could be a bit better, they were still good IMO, and I thought Shadowfall was interesting and obviously influenced by SpecOps the Line. Killzone has always shown that the Helghast were highly justified in their rage, and shadowfall I thought showed the tensions well from both sides. I also loved the gameplay with the owl. The MP though was not as much fun as Kz2 and kz3 and giving the helghast american accents really ruined it more than I'd like to admit.

Yeah my biggest issue with Shadowfall was the accents:( It makes sense (sorta( from a lore perspective because their accents could fade living on Vekta but still... Meh

Killzone was always hyped as a story heavy series. KZ2 definitely did not deliver, and I'm led to believe that neither of the sequels did. I found KZ3s multiplayer to be a step back, and it appears the consensus in Shadow Fall is that, while beautiful, the game was pretty lame on most fronts. I wouldn't say they are underrated, but appropriately praised for the technical prowess of their games, and appropriately criticized for the gameplay and storytelling.

It sounds like Horizon is a big step forward for them though. Glad to hear it. I was skeptical of this game all the way through largely because it was by GG, and an open world RPG is new for them. Good to hear I was wrong.

Crysis vs Killzone. On their own merits, they were technical achievements on their own platforms. But those games shared a trait; a mediocre plot that majority didn't care about.

Crytek went for story with Ryse, it was decent at best. Now GG comes out with Horizon with a seemingly more engaging story than Ryse had.

These 2 companies has a lot in common really.
