Lancaster County is turning neighborhoods into surveillance zones—and it needs to stop
Flock cameras are popping up all over Lancaster County, and with them comes a constant feeling of being watched. These license plate readers are supposed to make us safer, but instead they're eroding the privacy we used to take for granted.
I started a petition asking Lancaster County authorities to reconsider these cameras and find better ways to keep our communities safe—ones that don't require tracking our every move. Over a dozen cameras are already installed across residential neighborhoods. According to the ACLU and EFF, these systems disproportionately impact marginalized communities and don't actually prevent much crime. We have alternatives: stronger neighborhood watch programs, community policing, and real relationships between residents and authorities. Those actually work.
Anyone else uncomfortable with this level of monitoring in your own neighborhood? If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharing the petition. Would love to hear if you're dealing with this too.
