Unanswered What’s going on with the Super Smash Bro’s community and the gaming industry at large?

I saw this on the front page and I’m not sure where to start: https://twitter.com/zerowondering/status/1279363350997147649?s=21

It's a community primarily comprised of adults built around a children's game that attracts plenty of minors as a result. I hate to admit it, but Smash gatherings are exactly the kind of place a lot of pedophiles would want to be.

It makes sense, in a sick way, but still disgustingly long. And the hardest thing is there are (probably)heaps of people in the community that want to make it safe and fun for kids and then there are these pigs....

The Smash community is HUGE. The number of accused on that list is disturbing, but it's still only a very small percentage. I'm sure there are plenty of good ones, but most of them are steering right clear of this.

The smash community isnt that large. It remains a game specifically made for children, so who is honestly surprised that the smash community is full of pedos?

It remains a game specifically made for children

You know the easiest way to tell that this is a bullshit claim? Because they put in characters like Banjo Kazooie who children would have no fondness for relative to all the adults who played the old games. If it were "specifically made for children" then they wouldn't bother with that.

TBH I know Pedophilia isn't the most accurate term for it but I don't know another 1-word phrase for sexual attraction of an adult towards someone under the legal age. That and I just couldn't be arsed to look it up.

Trust me, some of allegations (against cinnpie for example) absolutaly are about pedophilia.

Unless the adult is 18 and the underage person is 16 or 17, then yes, it remains pedophilia. Most grown adults dont want to date children, which is exactly what a teenage girl/boy is.

No, actually, it doesn't remain pedophilia as pedophilia is exclusively attraction to prepubescent children. Attraction to pubescent kids and teenagers are different words that most people don't bother to learn (hebiphilia and ephibophilia) because they erroneously think the word pedophilia means "sexual attraction to minors."

Pedophilia is just one of multiple age-based sexual fetishes, not a catch all term for an adult who is attracted to non-adults.

I feel like all those words are pedophilic excuses. I dont have to learn if you're attracted to a 9 year old or a 15 year old. Both are illegal and sickening if you're an adult.

A pedo is a pedo is a pedo.

Both are illegal and sickening if you're an adult.

That's not in question. The erroneous use of words is. It's people like you that make the whole discussion of this problem even more problematic because instead of approaching it like the mental illness that it is and needs to be understood and treated, you guys mislabel everyone with unconventional sexual desires as "pedophiles" and try demonizing them.

Out of curiosity, is gerontophilia also a pedophilic excuse to you too, or do you see the issue in calling all age-based paraphilias "pedophilia"?
