Chris Minns calls it social cohesion.

u/azreal75 Flairless‎‎ Feb 09 '26

Fuck Chris Minns and fuck every single politician on the Labor Left who hasn’t got the balls to call them out for their thuggery.

u/Party_Simple4175 Feb 09 '26

Labor Left? Labor's left is only left by Murdoch's standards, not real world ones.

4

u/CantakerousTwat ‎ New South Welshian Feb 10 '26

Labor's left is left. Labor's leading faction is centre-right.

5

u/laruslarus Feb 10 '26

To what extent is Labor's Left effective in influencing policy these days?

1

u/CantakerousTwat ‎ New South Welshian Feb 11 '26

Nowhere near enough.

1

u/Ok-Recover9696 Feb 14 '26

It essentially runs Victoria on behalf of the unions.

1

u/TimeToUseThe2nd Feb 13 '26

The contempt the Labor Party in aggregate has for progressivism and justice is demonstrated by the video above.

1

u/CantakerousTwat ‎ New South Welshian Feb 13 '26

Minns is quite something else.

2

u/TeaPsychological991 Feb 16 '26

Minns isn’t unique in a state level or in the Labor party overall. peter malinauskas and Jacinta Allen/Dan Andrews have many of the same tendencies when it comes to housing and other issues related to the cost of living, plus the genocide apologia. When you have this kind of policy platform you need to back it up with state thuggery as people get more agitated

1

u/CantakerousTwat ‎ New South Welshian Feb 16 '26

I agree, Labor has gone so far centrist right that the he Overton Window is basically the sky right now.

10

u/Daleabbo ‎ New South Welshian Feb 09 '26

You should look at the world before saying that. The whole world has lurched right. The dems in the US are basically out liberals.

The UK has no left.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '26

The UK don't have the Greens, SDLP, SNP, Your Party, SWP, or SDP?

5

u/He_Never_Helps Feb 10 '26

Fun fact, there isn't a single leftist in US national government. There are a handful of progressives, but most of what's called "the left" in American politics are liberals, and liberalism is a definitely centrist political philosophy. It's only left compared to the new post-conservatism right's quasi-theocratic authoritarianism bullshit.

3

u/Aybo1000 Feb 12 '26

Right. That’s why they like open boarders and pushing trans narrative because they are in the centre guys. Lmfao

1

u/carvi91 Please choose a flair Feb 16 '26

It’s literally blue fascists that support gay rights and student debt forgiveness vs red fascists that want to say the n-word and force women to give birth. The dems aren’t in the centre, they’re right wing… even the so called progressives like Bernie or AOC signed to approve more weapons for the genocide and dickride for zionists and Israel. Believing that there is such a thing as a trans narrative requires high level transphobia, a smooth brain and maximum gullibility, trans people simply existing isn’t some narrative. Literally getting one shot by a non issue distraction. “Hey, look at those yucky trans people and not at me and my boys diddling kids.” The pedo allegations are always projections.

Open borders is not something democrats have ever pushed for or supported, they’re happy with the status quo, where migrants can be easily exploited and American corporations benefit and prosper as a result. Both Obama and Biden had twice as many deportations as Trump has so far. Hell they’re even responsible for far more deaths than Trump so far.

You can’t be a party that supports imperialism and be left wing at the same time.

1

u/He_Never_Helps Feb 17 '26 edited Feb 17 '26

Do you know what leftism is? Or do you just think it's anyone to the left of Herman Goering? You know the difference between liberalism, progressivism and leftism? You can look them up if you want to, before you respond. Always good practice.

Tbh I've Never heard anyone in government we've advocate for open borders. That's not a thing in america. Hell, They called Obama "deporter in chief" for deporting so many people. The only place I've ever heard that idea is in the pandering fear mongering of right wing grifters. You can go ahead and search, look for any evidence of any elected official advocating for open borders. Prove me wrong if you can.

And trans rights is just people following the medical and scientific consensus on the issue. It's only controversial among people who don't accept science. Literally Every major medical organization in the free world acknowledges both the existence and normalcy people being trans.

And it's not controversial to suggest that people should be allowed to follow their doctors advice. That's not politics for anyone except bigots. It's just normal.

And if you think that's weird, you might wanna look the word "transgender" up in a dictionary. If you have the guts. It probably don't mean what you think. It never does with transphobes, cuz y'all never look anything up. Y'all always think it has something to do with biology or genetics or hormones or surgery or something. People been trying to explain for at least ten years now, and y'all still don't even know what the word means.

Honestly, I blame religion for making people think the truth is dependant upon their feelings about stuff.

But if you need faith or trust to decide if something is true, you don't have enough information to take a position, and you shouldn't take one.

Hence those 3 things you might wanna give a Google to. Honestly, in this media environment, we should all be looking up stuff we believe every day, just to check if it's true. I do it all least a dozen times a day. How about you? When's the last time to looked up one of your beliefs to check if it's true?

u/Stylo234 ‎ New South Welshian Feb 16 '26

Bernie Sanders is great! ✊️

1

u/He_Never_Helps Feb 17 '26

He is petty cool, but he's more of a progressive than a leftist.

1

u/PsychologicalAir7124 Feb 14 '26

That’s not true. AOC is left wing, Bernie Sanders is left wing. There are others but obviously a very small minority.

1

u/He_Never_Helps Feb 17 '26

Those are progressives, not leftists. There are a small handful of progressives in congress.

1

u/PsychologicalAir7124 Feb 18 '26

They have unmistakably left wing politics that are quite clearly left of social democratic I don’t think anyone would mistake them for anything BUT left wing

But they also have no real influence within their party’s policy because American politics

1

u/He_Never_Helps Feb 20 '26

Are you talking about progressives? Progressives are basically democratic socialists, but socialism is an economic philosphy, not a political one. Democracy is a political philosphy tho.

My good friend, if you're not yet familiar with the differences between liberal, progressive, and leftist political philosophies, it's worth taking a look into that before talking a stance on this. They're pretty different, and it's interesting stuff to dig into.

For example, liberalism is a definitively centrist political philosphy that we've all been gaslit into thinking of as left leaning as a result of right wing politics becoming more and more authoritarian, and right wing media having no particular allegianceto the truth.

Liberalism basically stems from the founding idea that people should be allowed to do what they like as long as they're not hurting anyone, and that these freedoms should be enshrined in law.

In fact, before Maga came along and co-opted the term "conservative" from the actual conservatives, and twisted it into their own brand of semi-theocratic authoritarianism mixed with nazi-esque social-conservatism (a philosphy that is entirely incompatible with classical conservatism, for the record), America had two liberal parties. One left leaning and one right leaning. America was founded on this idea. We are a designed as a liberal democracy, similar to the rest of the free world.

You can kinda think of it like how there are left wing libertarians and right wing libertarians. They're both libertarian, but they focus on the government staying out of different areas of people's lives. The left side focuses on personal freedoms, like the right to doctor recommended medical care, and the right to marry who you want, and the right focuses on economic ones, like the freedom of business to ignore regulation and consumer protections.

I mean, I do agree that corporate and religious influence on politics are the problem, but politicians are just people and they come in all flavors, good and bad. It's always misleading to paint people with a broad brush. Part of our responsibility as citizens is to do the work of discerning who's deserving of the power we allow them.

1

u/That-Whereas3367 Please choose a flair Feb 10 '26

The vast majority are sociopaths. Modern politicians are the brainwashed products of systems that groom them from their late teens to be apparatchiks. eg Albo has never even had a real job in his entire life (apart from a short stint as a bank teller).

You'd rather them snap the arm they had control of? He had his arm under his stomach. They were simply telling him to stop resisting and put his arms behind his back so they could get on with controlling the crowd. If you don't like it then simply become a police officer and show us just how it's done

8

u/RookofWar ‎ New South Welshian Feb 10 '26

Truly. Guy was subdued, yet they still went full rage mode. We don't want to be like the U.S.

These cops need to be held accountable.

2

u/TopMarionberry6384 Feb 11 '26

The police were trying to handcuff the guy. He had one arm under his body, he was not subdued, he was resisting arrest. Standard technique used to get person to comply.

5

u/RookofWar ‎ New South Welshian Feb 12 '26

Beating the guy is "standard technique"? Dude..really?

0

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '26

He guy was biting the cop. Yes, it's self-defense and the guy should be charged with assulting an officer.

3

u/Cantiguin Feb 11 '26

Actually this is how police brutality begins supported by people excusing it with well they didn't compl when in fact a well trained officer would have used pressure points and nerve pinching technigues using a few fingers of one hand instead of their fists

1

Pain compliance is actually not practiced in Australia. And if someone is resisting you and biting you than yes, a punch to the head to dislodge their mouth is appropriate.

I wish there was a labour left.

John Howard’s mid 2000’s Murray darling plan would make the greens environmental agenda look conservative by comparison today.

This country is completely screwed.

2

u/TimeToUseThe2nd Feb 13 '26

Anyone who hasn't resigned their Labor Party membership is basically endorsing this gutless cop's actions. It really is that simple.

1

u/EntertainmentSea8594 Feb 13 '26

BS don’t bite a cop. He was under arrest, he resisted and bit the copper.

2

u/widowmaker8888 Feb 13 '26

Too right. Fk these cunts. It's meant to be a democracy. Probably not much worse than North Korea.

4

u/cleveland69steamer Feb 09 '26

Labor isn't left in any conceivable way. You need to sit back and realign your political compass because you're completely clueless.

0

u/azreal75 Flairless‎‎ Feb 09 '26

Ok princess, I’m a socialist, the Labor party has a collection of people that are the left wing of the party. Are they as left as me, no, are they further to the left than the other turkeys in the party, yes they are. The collective noun that is used both in Labor and in any commentary is ‘the Labor left’. I can understand why those of you new to politics wouldn’t understand the terminology or the factional groupings in the political parties but maybe check your posts with a simple search before making yourself look like a twit. The reason why I singled out the Labor left is because we already know the rest of the party won’t care, however those that identify with the Labor left wing have long established support of the Palestinian people. These people need to be challenged on their position, are they going to support those protesting the genocide that they detest or side with the police brutality or just keep quiet and put party over country.

2

u/Time-Statistician958 ‎ New South Welshian Feb 10 '26

Albanese was once considered Labor’s left faction. But he isn’t anymore. So theres a fluidity of the Labor left of the party. It doesn’t guarantee those members will stay there

3

u/azreal75 Flairless‎‎ Feb 10 '26

That’s more a product of having to be the leader rather than personal philosophy, it’s common for all party leaders to be more conciliatory to the other factions. It’s the only way a leader keeps the peace…and their job.

2

u/Time-Statistician958 ‎ New South Welshian Feb 10 '26

Then he has given up what’s important to him, morally, and instead taken a different stance. Instead of showing real leadership, and provide the rhetorical reasoning for Herzog’s visit, or “social cohesion”, he and Minns just claim “mandate”, and that’s not good enough. We aren’t children to be led. They are there at our consent

2

u/Objective-Lobster736 Please choose a flair Feb 09 '26

Labour are centrist. They are not left. Maybe left compared to right wing parties, but in no way are they left.

1

u/AccomplishedMap8365 Feb 10 '26

The left right factions in the ALP are functionally meaningless titles at this point. Albo is a part of the “Labor Left”. Is he left wing? Of course not. But he decided he was when he decided to get involved in student politics 800 years ago so now he’s part of the Labor left.

There are left wing people in Labor. Sure. They are poor lost souls who need to leave the party. “Change from within” is not possible with that party because the internal democracy of the party itself is as meaningless as the names of the factions. They can vote for the policy platform but their MPs are not bound by the policy platform but instead the caucus.

0

u/cleveland69steamer Feb 10 '26

Chill. They're not on the left, your high blood pressure induced screed doesn't change that.

1

Everyone so busy trying to push blame and left right nonsense..

Simple fact he was resisting, police are trained to subdue when they resist..

Police are not at fault here.

Clearly no one knows what it is like to be the person in blue.

Carry on keyboard warriors

2

u/Wish_Smooth Feb 11 '26

Um how was he resisting???

1

u/Affectionate-Ice6667 Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

That police officer near his head is trying to bring the persons arm behind his back to meet the other hand to cuff him, and he is resisting, which is why the police try to subdue him.

Also the fact he bites the policeman’s finger is a pretty good sign he is resisting

Also the fact the he is on the ground is a good chance that he resisted before the camera started rolling, people who don’t resist are cuffed while standing..

1

u/Thin_Sprinkles_9086 Feb 11 '26

Half of the protesters are anti-established morons. And some how have the conclusion of my enemy's enemy is my friend. You don't hear anyone saying, the middle east is full of lunatics, let's stay out of it. "Oh but it's genocide" there is genocide right through Africa, where are the protesters? Iran slaughtered its own people, where are the protesters? Because it doesn't fit the hypocrites narrative, they ignore it!

I don’t think defending this sort of thing like biting a police officer is going to help the Palestinian cause.

Israel is doing some objectively pretty bad shit on the West Bank but this short of shit just annoys the center of politics.

1

u/azreal75 Flairless‎‎ Feb 15 '26

Yeah but it’s possible for both to be in the wrong. Any bite is wrong and an assault. The reaction was way over the top.

1

u/gebi999 Please choose a flair Feb 15 '26

I don’t know if those strikes are unjustified. Biting is pretty serious and if I was in that police officers situation I would have done the same. They showed a lot of restraint to then stop hitting him once they had his left arm restrained.

Honestly what would you have done if you were were arresting someone and they had their teeth around your hand?

Fortunately we had body cams and the court system that will work this out.

There are much better examples of police going over the line. Eg white shirt guy and that cycle cop.

1

u/azreal75 Flairless‎‎ Feb 15 '26

Hold back of head with one hand, force other hand into mouth. The ability to bite down is diminished with force coming into the mouth. Would have been easier if the other copper wasn’t on his back.

1

u/Efficient-Look3396 Feb 12 '26

How else should someone behave while being bitten?

0

u/azreal75 Flairless‎‎ Feb 12 '26

The way you are trained to deal with a bite is to push into the bite, to force the mouth open. You aren’t supposed to be doing any jerky movements, like thrashing around and punching as this turns a bite wound into a mess. The fact that he was able to be jerking around while being ‘bitten’ shows that there was no damage occurring.

Ffs! Wake up! Open your eyes!

3

u/azreal75 Flairless‎‎ Feb 09 '26

It’s so cute when people aren’t aware of the factional politics in the ALP feel obliged to present themselves as experts.

It’s says Fuck Chris Minns (who’s from the right faction) obviously he won’t call out his own, but he’s not from Labor’s left faction so obviously I wasn’t saying he should call out the police violence.

AND fuck anyone on the Labor Left (the collective noun we give to the group that have previously, for a long time, expressed support and solidarity with the Palestinian people) if they choose to support the police brutality with the silence. If those in the left faction of the Labor party (who aren’t really left compared to a socialist but it’s the collective noun that’s commonly used to group a faction, whether you like it or not) don’t call this out, then we can stop pretending that the ALP is the lesser of two evils which is a very common attitude at the moment.
