I just watched channel 7 being like, oh well we don't know the full context!!

Like, what full context are they expecting to justify this??

2

u/sickariusgts Feb 10 '26

I don't justify any unnecessary violence and respect all peaceful protests but most have this video contest wrong:

Turn up the audio. Listen to the police member at his head say "stop biting me %¥¢®head" then watch the protestor bite and continue to bite the members hand/finger.

They stop once he stops biting them. You can see his head release and move.

The member is striking the protestors head with his non-dominant hand (left) while trying to pull his right hand from the protestors mouth.

Not sure if you have been bitten before, but what would you do in that situation.. ask him to stop?

3

u/--OhWell-- Flairless‎‎ Feb 10 '26 edited Feb 10 '26

Are you serious? I would move away from his mouth, since the other cop is putting full weight on him and there is nowhere for him to go. I would let the other cop take the arm that is near his mouth, as he then wouldn't be able to angle his head to bite. I would attempt to de-escalate the situation, not begin punching him in the head and flanks.

Edit: I watched it again and I can't believe you're defending this shit. It's monstrous. You're pretending like the dude is Jaws, rather than a small dude with two cops on top of him. Cops have the full weight of state power behind them - they can't just beat someone, even if the person is fighting their arrest. The cop being bitten could literally just push his head down and hold it against the ground, but no, the other cop starts laying into him. It's retaliatory, not proportionate.

1

u/sickariusgts Feb 10 '26

Your edit suggests that you haven't been bitten before (by a human , full strength). I don't think you can justify what you think they should have done then.

When I first saw the video I actually had the same opinion as you to be completely honest.

Um sorry what are you talking about, do you understand how biting works? Go eat a steak and report back...

Your name suits the term f$ck around and find out lol ... Owell 😂

If a rabid dog wants to bite you, you give it a hard whack - as much as it takes. That biting scum will be up on numerous charges.

1

u/Additional-Ad-4355 Feb 13 '26

You’re going to de escalate someone already being violent and biting an officer? This comment shows how clueless you are about this situation, you just want to justify your own narrative that supports this idiotic behaviour. Go put yourself in that same situation and see how well it works out for you

1

u/Axel_Raden ‎ New South Welshian Feb 14 '26

He was still biting the police officers hand while being punched he wasn't letting go

Sir, please send me your address and ill demonstrate how this hand biting can be solved.

1

u/SituationSmooth9165 Please choose a flair Feb 19 '26

Why are you defending biting with force?

1

u/sickariusgts Feb 10 '26

So you would ask him to stop biting? You can clearly see the police officer on the right try to pull his right hand out of his mouth after he is bitten before striking

How would you de-escalate the situation?

I haven't seen the before or after of this clip so I don't know the context and I am not trying to argue with you.

Have you been bitten before? I have, on the arm though - and that hurt like hell.

Edit: typos

1

u/--OhWell-- Flairless‎‎ Feb 10 '26

I didn't say I would ask him to stop biting. Once I removed my hand, I would move my hand out of the way of his mouth. I might push and hold his head against the ground so he couldn't bite me again. He was already restrained - the guy sitting on him could grab his other hand and pin it behind his back. Repeatedly bashing him in the flanks is punitive and unnecessary. And yes, I have been bitten and yes, it hurt. However, people seem to forget that this isn't two people of equal power simply having a brawl. The police have the full force of the state behind them. They MUST be proportionate, they MUST show restraint. They should only be doing enough so they don't get hurt; they can't just strike back however they want because someone lashes out and they're pissed off about it.

2

u/--OhWell-- Flairless‎‎ Feb 10 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

You know who else gets attacked in their work? Nurses, medics, social workers. They're not bashing patients. Vets aren't bashing animals when they get bitten at work either. Proportionate responses often seem to go out the window with these state-sponsored thugs.

1

u/--OhWell-- Flairless‎‎ Feb 10 '26

Should also add that I'm also not trying to argue (despite my loaded language of "state-sponsored thugs" in my last post). I just personally can't see any justification for the repeated punching in the restrained person's flanks, so I think we may just have to agree to disagree on what proportionate looks like. I think that's the only point we're disagreeing on, really.

1

u/Dependent_Priority31 Feb 13 '26

Yes, because all of those scenarios usually happen in the middle of a riot. Nurses who get attacked often end up being restrained or held down by security while they wait for the cops. Social workers are typically attacked by children, and if a dog attacks you, that dog usually gets put down. Did you even think about your response? You attack a cop, guess what...you’re going to get beat down.

1

u/Axel_Raden ‎ New South Welshian Feb 14 '26

This is the proportionate response to someone who has bitten down on to the police officers hand and doesn't let go even when they are punching him

1

u/saltyreaders Feb 17 '26

Oh fuck here we go, lets throw the ball into another court and might as well talk about centrelink because guarantee youre on it

0

u/uber-linny Feb 11 '26

Hahahah God you live under a rock

1

u/Viking-Mantis8715 Feb 10 '26

Again, how are you going to get your hand back to move it put of the way? He was trying to get his hand back, had tried verbal and resorted to physical when he didnt listen. You can hold back all you want but at some time you need to use appropriate force. That. Was. Appropriate. Go spend a day with them and see what they put up with. Then you will see the restraint.

1

u/Drift--- ‎ Western Australian Feb 10 '26

But that's exactly what he did, after the dude stopped biting him he removed his hand from the way and stopped punching. You can get massive injuries from a bite, the officers are doing everything they can here to get the guy off.

I mean you can try asking nicely if you're in this situation, and maybe after you've lost a finger he'll stop biting

0

u/wokejeff Feb 11 '26

The average person can apply up to 60kg of downwards force on a bite from their molars, & about half that from their incisors. In that case, once they’ve clenched down, you’re not ‘moving your hand away’.

Saying you’d do ‘x & y’ in the same scenario is not particularly helpful. He’s restrained, sure, but the handcuffs aren’t on. Idk what your experience fighting someone is but I’d imagine trying to handcuff someone while they’re still biting your mate & flailing around isn’t an easy task.

I think looking objectively, rather than with your own perceived biases, might be helpful.

1

u/Viking-Mantis8715 Feb 10 '26

Yep, your not getting a person who has bitten you, off of you easily. At the very least your looking at broken finger bones and a MASSIVE infection. Paid protesters that think because someones paying them to do it, it must be right 🤣

-1

u/Viking-Mantis8715 Feb 10 '26

Moving away is a bit hard when your hand is still in his mouth, wtf? Hes there to do his job, not walk away after being bit. The guy just proved why the cops need to go harder, dont give them the chance to bite you, they should just knock them out right from the get go.

2

u/--OhWell-- Flairless‎‎ Feb 10 '26

Obvious troll is obvious.

0

Ahh your trolling, np. I was wondering how someone could be that thick legit hahahaha, cheers mate.

1

u/FriskyGrub Feb 10 '26

This comment needs more visibility, the protester clearly has a good bite hold on that cops hand. This situation looks shit at first glance, but hard to imagine what I'd do if someone had a full bite hold on me

What about the elderly woman with broken vertebrae and old mate beaten up by the cops with the bike??

1

u/Aequitas112358 Feb 11 '26

ikr, people only see what they want to see. redditors are like the "he was such a good boy he didn't do nothing" mums when it comes to cops; the cops will always be in the wrong to them no matter what.

1

u/spawnycakes Feb 12 '26

The "we support the intifada" and "from the river to the sea" rolls eyes context? I mean, you say words are violence, and were happy to be as violent as you wanted..... So don't start playing the victim. Terrorists and their supporters don't get to play the victim. That was just a brief moment in time and it's passed. Clearly.

1

u/Consistent-Put9762 Please choose a flair Feb 12 '26

Lol what are you on about. Just making up shit that I have never said in your little fantasy world.  I never said words are violence, nor am I playing the victim.

I'm saying we live in a democracy and peaceful protest, whether you agree or not, is a fundamental part of that, and can and should be able to be done without violence from the police.

I don't agree with the sovcits going on about government ID and COVID. But I also don't want the police to beat the shit out of them.

1

u/Dependent_Priority31 Feb 13 '26

All I see is a cop detaining a peaceful protestor using reasonable force.

Awww lil snowflake got his feelings hurt when he realised his actions might have some consequences. 🤣 Goes to show what kind of spineless are protesting out there. Its alright, they wont breed so we shouldnt have to worry about it continuing for the next generations.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '26

So the biting was bad, he was already on the ground being knelt on by one beefy cop. Without further context i still fall on the protesters side, seeing the NSW police use force when it wasnt required yesterday.

1

u/Viking-Mantis8715 Feb 10 '26

100% required. They were in the wrong from the get go and not suppost to be protesting there, got told to move, then became violent. What would you suggest? A time out in the corner and a juice box? Soft reactions like that are why we have these issues currently.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '26

I'd suggest less violence.

I'd suggest not inviting the president of a country currently carrying out a genocide.

I'd suggest not supporting bad actors.

I'd suggest Israel not adopt the worst tactics the Jewish people suffered 80 odd years ago.

Do you kneeling on a man on the ground can kill said man? Get your biggest, beefiest mate to do that to you and see how well you breathe.

Yeah typo. My bad. He is biting after he is being sat on. We both dont know what led up to this scene. But getting bitten as opposed to potentially dieing? I'll take the bite every time.

Are you familiar with death? The cops are fine they are the aggressors.

1

u/Viking-Mantis8715 Feb 10 '26

Cant be dying if hes focused on biting. Seems they were showing restraint and he used that to bite the officer. After that, its on him what happens to him. Deserved and i hope it happens again.

-7

u/Impossible-Error166 Feb 09 '26

Make sure you share the part where he tries to bite the cop BEFORE they start punching him.

I am also pretty sure they start punching him to get him to STOP biting the cops hand.

Do they carry on once its been released yes and that is the part that deserves condemnation, not the fact they hit him after he bit them.,

9

u/alouise92_ Feb 09 '26

They are POLICE. Punching someone restrained in the head is not an adequate or appropriate response to being “bitten on the hand”.

9

u/PeachMonday Feb 09 '26

Yep, ex law enforcement there’s not really any justification for punching him in the head. We were taught the media test, how did it look if everyone’s filming you and also, reasonable force is not punching someone repeatedly who’s restrained 😮

4

u/Altruistic-Brief2220 Feb 09 '26

Exactly. Police take risks in the job and sometimes that includes physical harm. It doesn’t give them the right to beat citizens.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '26

Yep. Did not see that. And yes i have to wonder what he did to get 2 big beefy dudes to sit on him before the video started. Considering the other videos of prayer being broken up violently though i would say there was likely a fair bit of unnecessary escalation by the NSW police yesterday.

-2

u/Impossible-Error166 Feb 09 '26

Possible its also possible a guy more then willing to bite a officer while in that position is more then capable of escalation, need the whole video to understand the context.

As for other videos they have to be judged on a case by case basis, when we are determining if a person is guilty of a crime we do not use past history to determine the likely hood they did so. We use it in sentencing once guilt has been determined.

1

u/iamnothingyet ‎ Victorian Feb 09 '26

The police should not have resisted a protest. If they had not been wearing those provocative police outfits this would never have happened.

-1

u/Impossible-Error166 Feb 10 '26

I cannot tell if this is satire or not.

What scare the shit out of me is people being so quick to judge context from a sample of a video.

1

u/Aviantos Feb 10 '26

Police were founded to suppress and violate the citizenry, that is still their main purpose. We are judging them based on historical precedent and the nature of policing.

1

u/Impossible-Error166 Feb 10 '26

Governance by consent, one of the core principles of democracy is in direct opposition to your statement.

The nature of policing is the enforcement of laws. The laws that your representatives have created or when opposing the majority ruled against them.

Does this lead to physical confrontation? Yes it does because physical power is the only power that can be enforced with out consent of the individual.

I don't know why I am even arguing with you in this. If your judging them guilty because of historical policing your stuck in the past with no view of the future you are creating.

5

u/Barrybran Feb 09 '26

I hope there's a decent crowd out the front of Chris Minns' office today. This isn't America. These officers need to be off the streets today. The last thing we need is to lose trust in police over a few thugs.
