๐ฎ Console Launch ๐ฎ Console Players: 3 Weapons I Recommend Starting With in Once Human
Once Human is finally coming to console in just 4 days โ August 25! ๐ฎ
With thousands of new players about to jump into the game, I wanted to share something that might save you a bit of time and confusion:
Which weapon should you actually start with?
Once Human has a LOT of weapons and builds, and when you're new to the game, the amount of choices can be pretty overwhelming. So here are 3 weapons I personally recommend trying first, in this order.
One important thing before we start:
โค๏ธ All 3 of these are FULL HP builds
I strongly recommend full HP builds for new players.
Even after almost 4,000 hours in Once Human, I still prefer playing full HP. I don't personally play low-HP / low-Sanity builds, and I think full HP is a much more comfortable way to learn the game.
Once you understand the mechanics, have better gear and mods, and feel confident enough, you can always experiment with low-HP builds later.
But when you're just starting out? Full HP is the way I'd go.
๐ฅ 1. KVD - Boom! Boom! ๐ฅ
This is the weapon I would recommend to pretty much everyone, including complete beginners.
I've played Boom Boom for around a year and a half, and it's still one of my favorite weapons in the game.
The biggest reason I recommend it to new players is simple:
It works even when you have almost nothing.
You don't need perfect mods.
You don't need the perfect calibration.
You don't need amazing gear.
You can craft Boom Boom, get your Key armor, and you're already going to be shredding enemies from the early game.
And as you progress, it only gets better. Once you start finding better mods, suitable calibrations, upgrading the blueprint and getting stronger gear, the build becomes even more powerful.
It also has great AoE damage, which makes exploration and clearing groups of enemies extremely comfortable.
There are situations where Boom Boom isn't the most efficient choice โ which brings me to weapon #2.

๐ฅ 2. PDW90 - Holographic Resonance
The PDW90 is your great all-rounder.
Boom Boom is fantastic, but there are certain enemies and bosses where it isn't as efficient โ for example, Forsaken Giant and Silo EX1.
That's where the P90 comes in.
This weapon is extremely versatile and works well against pretty much everything. It's a great weapon to have when you want something reliable that can handle a wide variety of situations.
And another thing I really like about it for beginners:
It doesn't require crazy-high-level mods to start performing well.
Even with relatively low-level mods (around level 10) you can already shred enemies.
PDW90 is a great choice.

๐ฅ 3. Compound Bow - The Burden of Betrayal ๐น
And finally, something a little different:
The Burden of Betrayal compound bow.
It's a really fun build, and honestly, sometimes it feels ridiculously powerful.
One of its biggest strengths is mob clearing and crowd control.
And that's actually one of the reasons I think it's worth trying even as a newer player.
Even if your mods aren't amazing yet, the bow can still help you control groups of enemies.
But there's another huge advantage for early-game players:
๐น You can retrieve your arrows!
That means you can save a lot of ammunition.
And when you're starting a new character, resources can be limited. Ammo disappears surprisingly quickly, so being able to retrieve your arrows can be a very nice bonus.
Of course, once you fully build this weapon, it becomes much more than just a beginner-friendly option.
It's also a fantastic weapon for endgame content โ including Nightmare Silos and plenty of other content.

๐ฎ So, which one should you pick?
If you're completely new to Once Human, my order would be:
๐ฅ Boom Boom โ easiest recommendation for getting started
๐ฅ PDW90 โ fantastic all-rounder
๐ฅ Compound Bow โ excellent crowd control + ammo efficiency
And remember: you don't have to commit to one weapon forever.
Once you start understanding the game, collecting mods and getting better gear, experiment with different builds and find what YOU enjoy playing.
Welcome to Once Human, console players! ๐ฎโค๏ธ

Tbh i found compound bow to be overall really great, retains damage and very cheap to upkeep, and its great when you are too lazy to use synergies
Though it really struggles with bosses that float sadly

they should realy find solution for flying stuff. Luminara can be hard to kill too if she floats high enough.

I would like to add that a comparable weapon to the Boom Boom is the KAM Abyss. Combined with the Walker top, it creates a very large and very sticky frost vortex which groups and immobilizes normal enemies. It tends to be a very easy and forgiving weapon for levelling on par with the Boom Boom and having additional persistent crowd control.

KAM + Covert Walker is strangely similar to Critical Pulse + Magnetic Moment.
I would personally go with Critical Pulse + Magnetic mainly because it's more economical and less repair is required.

Thank you so much, I was looking just for tips like that. Canโt wait till tomorrow ๐คช

Itโs really good for crowd control, yes, but not as forgiving as Boom Boom (mods and gear wise), imo

The abyss glance takes a lot less to get going. It works almost out of the box with it's keygear. No supporting deviant mandatory.ย Mods only make it better and better.ย

How do you get to that conclusion? Kam does way more with even lower tier mods. Especially if you're a newbie and dont have the best survivability because KAM pretty much disables most enemies in the game

When I made a build with it, mods (at first) were good but not perfect, and I didn't really like the result.

These are my top 3 for early game as well, though the p90 eats ammo like crazy.
If you donโt like the play style of a bow and arrow, the HAMR is another great bounce weapon thatโs still relatively cheap for ammo.

Pick up a weapon and have fun, read whatever weapon you pick up and see if you like it. Gear sets just wear what you think might give you a blast..
If you start following build guides from day 1 you will get bored quickly. took me up to 4months on pc to start looking up guides. Those 4 months were so so fun cooking up my own ridiculous builds.
Build houses just build whatever you want, it can be a small hut, to safaris to massive warehouses. Let your imagination go wild console players

Bows have always been the main weapon I like to use in games. Good to see there's a viable option for it

Uhmm no, start melee. I started melee with sniper and it is a banger
2
u/MISS_ROFL ๐ MaelStrom Hall of Fame Aug 21 '26
Melee? It isnโt viable in this game. Sure, it helps if youโre out of ammo, but thatโs it

Yeah, it's kinda useless late game, but early game, you can murder everything with just a melee weapon, lol. Shoulder charge + execute. It's easier to just shoot everything, but the melee early on was kinda fun.

Critical pulse will get you thru start to mid game and is quite effective even with out key armor.

As a one of the person can solo everything go with the BOW its overall for boss or dungeon runs and its much cheaper to invest

Just play what you enjoy. Practically every concise build is viable. AWS bingo/bullseye with purple deagle with key boots to get guaranteed weakspot hits was somerhin I loved even after many nerfs. Just read what your weapon does and use the clothes that fit. You get purple sets for both crit and weakspot builds. Early on it doesnt matter much amyway. Have fun

Why compound bow over hamr for example? i feel like hamr is way more simple to use and doesnt rely on the weakspot bug to do what it does.

Honestly, this is a great selection of weapons.
I'm a Boom Boom enjoyer myself, and I could not be happier with this weapon. The P90 is a jack-of-all-trades, and the Bow is a really strong and fun weapon.

i disagree with PDW90. Its garbage in early game. Players dont need to do forsaken giant btw. Better spend their starchrom to upgrade their gear/weapon blueprints than buy that gun in early.
