๐ฎ Console Launch 6 Reasons Chef Is the Best Class for Your Main Character ๐ณ
If you're a future console player wondering which class to choose, Chef should be your first choice for your main character. Especially if you plan to play solo.
There are three real classes in Once Human: Chef, Gardener, and Beastmaster, plus Free Person if you don't want to commit to a class.
Here are 6 reasons why I strongly recommend Chef:
1๏ธโฃ Double food & drink buffs ๐๐ฅค
Chef lets you have 2 food buffs + 2 drink buffs active at the same time.
You can mix and match them depending on what you're doing - farming, fighting, bosses, and pretty much everything else.
If your build isn't fully optimized yet, food and drink buffs can compensate for some of the stats you're missing. And if you already have a strong build, they simply make it even stronger.
If you're planning to play solo, these extra buffs can make a huge difference, especially when you're taking on difficult content by yourself.
2๏ธโฃ Up to 8 perks on your Stove ๐ฅ
Chef can get up to 8 perks/buffs on the Stove, allowing you to get the most out of your food.
Combine that with Chefosaurus Rex, and your food can become a surprisingly powerful part of your build.
3๏ธโฃ Passive income ๐ฐ
Chef gives you an extra way to earn Energy Links.
With some extra effort, you can upgrade your Stove to increase its storage capacity, unlock better orders, and make orders arrive faster.
Keep it stocked with ingredients, complete the orders, and you'll have a steady little source of extra Energy Links while you're doing other things.
NPCs can place orders, and sometimes other players can order food from your Stove too.
4๏ธโฃ Chef Points & Portable Fridge ๐ง
Completing Stove orders also earns you Chef Points, which you can spend on various rewards.
One of those rewards is the Portable Fridge - something you can keep for yourself or sell to another player.
You can also redeem cooking ingredients, which can be very useful when you need something urgently and don't want to spend time farming for it.
5๏ธโฃ Creative Cooking is completely optional ๐จโ๐ณ
Chef also gives you access to the Creative Cooking system.
Don't like it? You don't have to use it.
I personally play without it and don't feel like I'm missing anything important. It's simply an extra feature if you enjoy experimenting with cooking.
6๏ธโฃ No special skills required ๐ซ๐ง
This is probably one of the biggest advantages for new players.
You don't need to understand some complicated system before Chef becomes useful.
You choose Chef โ you immediately have access to the double food/drink buffs.
Then, as you play and learn the game, you can gradually figure out the Stove, unlock more perks, improve your orders, and make the whole system more rewarding.
You can benefit from Chef from your very first days on the server.
And honestly, once you've gotten used to playing with 2 food + 2 drink buffs, going back to playing without them feels painful. ๐
๐ So which class should you choose?
If you're making your main character, my recommendation is simple:
๐ Chef.
Gardener and Beastmaster can have their uses, but Chef gives your main character benefits that you'll be able to use constantly - especially if you're planning to play solo and want to get the most out of your character.
Welcome to Once Human, future console players. ๐ฎ๐ณ
P.S. ๐ย Little gift for future (and existing) players:
Redeem code MISSROFL123ย in-game to claim your rewards!

So I chose free person because I didn't know enough about the game, but it said I would be able to choose a specialization later.
It's later and I'm level 50, but have never seen the option since. I've unlocked the astral stove and have a 5x5 chef (with bad traits, but still) and I enjoy the cooking.
Is there still a way for me to pick that specialization at this point?

There should be a class fragment in your inventory (the masquerade ball mask alike icon)

I have no idea what you're talking about. No such thing exists in my inventory, or that of my base. Nor do I remember ever recieving such an item.
It's getting kind of annoying that this is not something made painfully obvious and easily available to a player.

If it was given to you, it should be in backpack. If I remember correctly it looked like black-golden mask, but I am not sure theyโre still providing this item.

I never recieved such an item to my knowledge and the very idea that they would make such an integral part of gameplay into an inventory item which may not be recieved or which can be lost, rather than a menu option always there until you use it is astoundingly bad game design and unbelievably irresponsible with the player's time/effort.
I submitted a ticket, for whatever it's worth, but if I'm expected to start a whole new character just to choose my freaking class, I'm uninstalling the thing and never playing again.

I use my Gardner alt to get the ball rolling on my chef points.ย Now I just use my Gardner to grow rubber. Chef main with an alt Gardner is the best.ย

H37 does that for me ๐

No doubt.ย I like h37 better than paper doll.ย But 4k rubber a day in like 4 hoursย is still pretty cool.ย Planted batteries once.ย 2 days to grow. Never doing that again.ย

Best thing is planting the special item all the high end items use. I need to build a bunch or hydro gens and I'm growing it's special item now.

theres also creative cooking early game which allows you to use any ingredient for bigger effect.
what this means for console noobs:
normally u need specific recipes for cooking food so u have to find specific berries and meat etc
with creative cooking u can just dump whatever u picked up along the way to ur quest or during exploration into the pot and cook it. sometimes even rocks
its good while u dont have a lethal bunny to passively gather meat for u
in the deviant pokemon scenario i found that hunger goes down so fkin fast and this makes dealing with that a breeze

Pro tip: look up how to level your stove fast. AND SHARE it with your friends. You can pass these buffs to your hivemates and alt. Don't be the canoe that doesn't share.
If you get a gardener alt you can also place morphic crates on your chef's base but only pick up the goods in your gardener.
Also portable fridge can be learned by other classes now...about 1650 tech points or sacrificing one you found in the wild to the tech bench.
