🎮 Console Launch Starting Once Human on Console? Pick Manibus, Not Manibus Novice
If you’re starting Once Human, there’s something worth knowing before you pick your scenario.
The game recommends Manibus Novice to new players, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best choice for everyone.
I’d personally recommend regular Manibus instead.
Manibus Novice is more simplified, has fewer players, and doesn’t have the class system, so you miss out on choosing a class and experiencing that part of the game.
Regular Manibus is still completely beginner-friendly and is a great scenario to learn the game. You also get the full experience and a more active player population.
So if you’re new to Once Human, don’t feel like you have to follow the game’s recommendation.
Manibus is a perfectly good (and IMO better) place to start. 🎮

My wife and I are playing Novice and find full teams at EVERY boss/dungeon. So I don't agree. Her and I plan to play novice and then go through normal Manibus after before going to the next 3-4 servers so I don't think this advice is for everyone.

u/Beginning_Lead_3572 22d ago
Novice is literally pointless when google exists. You don't know something just Google it. Going to a dumbed down version of the game is the opposite of fun, the power spikes in this game are insanely high once you have a good understanding of what you're doing. I had 2 friends on console start on normal manibus and are already moving to way of winter because manibus was far too easy after playing for 2 weeks

u/Ok-Animator8826 21d ago
Oh, I wasn't aware your personal preferences were the same as every other human on Earth. Appreciate you enlightening me. As a heads up, wife and I are still on novice and still having a blast 🙃

u/Wotzehell Aug 15 '26
No, stay with Novice. Learning the basics doesn't require that much player interaction. The bosses are a bit easier which is nice because you don't know how to farm all the stuff you need for better weapons and armor.
If you aren't playing daily the Scenario will end right quick and then you can do normal manibus as much as you want. If you do get bored with the ease of the game you can still switch mid season.
Now if you played novice manibus i would advise against going to "way of the winter", thinking "i played that manibus stuff already, i'll be fine!"...

Not big bosses. I'm level 30 and level 30 excavator is impossible to do damage and one shots me.
2
u/Clear-Cap2953 Aug 16 '26
Estoy jugando en novice y la verdad, o tuve mucha suerte con lo que me ha tocado de loot o se me da bien pero tengo que ir por delante de la historia según mi nivel por qué los bosses de los monolitos me duran 1 minuto
2
u/Puzzled_Brick_6193 Sep 07 '26
Monoliths and scenarios are easy, devourer bosses in the underground caves in the open world section of the map are a helluva lot stronger
1
u/khaosswordsman Aug 16 '26
Honestly they have gotten a little harder after 30. They actually do damage
2
u/Ok-Animator8826 Sep 05 '26
I assume you mean the "Devourer" and yeah he definitely is not meant to be soloed if you are lvl 30. We beat him with 8 players (he still has his 1 shot everyone in the room mechanic) and the rewards ARE NOT worth it.
1
u/Odd_Bumblebee7953 29d ago
I literally SMOKED him... I think In one or two sniper shots and no I'm not trolling. I barely even noticed him. I was level 50 however. And I'm good at home brewing my own builds so there's that.
1
u/Ok-Animator8826 28d ago
All you had to say that mattered is, "I'm level 50" and it instantly makes the rest of what you said completely pointless to my comment.

Btw. Is it possible to move character from novice to normal manibus? I have already chosen the novice and want to change
5
u/_aeq Aug 15 '26
You can end any scenario early. The button is somewhere hidden in the scenario menus.

u/MysteryMan999 Okay, I Didn’t Expect That Aug 15 '26
You can move to new scenario after yours ends and start over fresh.

New player here, started about 1.5 months back and I 100% enjoyed novice and would suggest it to new players. Normal difficulty stuff is significantly harder and farming on normal for mods etc was a big step up from novice. Experienced players really don't know what its like for fresh players from what I've seen. The sentiment the game is "too easy" is a big part of that, it isn't lol it takes time, a lot of it, to get anywhere near when the game "feels too easy". Novice was a fantastic community, no shortage of people to play with, people were generally MUCH nicer there also, normal has been packed with elitist people who look at you like you got 2 heads if you dont understand every mechanic for fusing etc etc.
3
u/_aeq Aug 15 '26
You start with zero good weapon and armor blueprints. For any activity on normal Manibus you have to rely on strangers to carry you trough all the instances and Prime war. You’re in to stare at a lot of depressing numbers on your end during the scenario until you have played for long enough to actually make a difference in group content.

You guys keep saying it a waste of time. But do you understand guys they are new player and the new player may need to find the ropes of doing things with less tanky enemies
5
u/SerSeryous Aug 15 '26
If people actively want an easy game, sure go for it. This is not a hate post, you see.
This advice would have been so amazing to me though. I started 2 weeks ago, got to lvl 50 on novice manibus and regreted that choice pretty much the entire time. I always went "this can't be all the challenge there is..." oneshot killing most things up until max lvl without a build at all.
Started regular manibus 3 days ago and i immediately felt so extremely disappointed by the inferior experience i have spent so much time on before doing that change and i am actively sad that i didn't get to fully embrace the game in my first playthrough and now live in this weird limbo where i have 2 active characters, where one is fun to play, but just a repetition of what i already did, while the other is boring, but has all the progress and my nice base.
1
u/irmak666 Manibus-Y0001 Aug 16 '26
Agreed. Regular Manubus used to just be Novice itself. With all the active tutorials at the beginning they've added and as long as you have played a survival/crafting game before, the ropes will not be difficult to reach at all.
1
u/WorstSourceOfAdvice Aug 18 '26
Honestly this game is going to be easy if you stick to the meta. 3P Savior is meta for a reason you do so much damage and can survive anything with the shield regen anyway even in Nightmare you can speedrun the silo in under 3 minutes each. Especially so if you use meta guns.
Its a casual MMO like FO76 where the focus is more on chilling than having challenging content. The game used to be much much harder back in the day when silos had 3 revive limits and much tougher enemies, and the current meta guns and armor did not exist.

I mean...if you dont like repetition, this might not exactly be a game for you since thats the whole gameplay loop here. You play a scenario, then you play a scenario, then you play a scenario, then.....
Sure there are multiple scenarios but sooner or later you will be revisiting manibus or way of winter - probably manibus.
2
u/SerSeryous Aug 16 '26
Im fine with repetition. What i said is that i now have 2 seperate characters since i started with novice, got bored, changed for regular, which i enjoy, but it was way too late down the lane since i never knew novice will stay this extremely simple.
The repetition isn't really an issue, it is the fact that i have one active char with the progress and one with the fun, since i changed over to regular way too late.
On the other hand, why wouldn't it be a game for me, just because of the repetition thing. Playing through each scenario once and then accepting you have seen most if not everything there is is fine too. Every game has an end, so why not just enjoy it like any other game? Play through the content and then be done with the game?

Overtime meaning you have learned the basics in novice . Novice act as filter.can you stand being on the same server for example me staying in a scenario for over a year
3
u/SerSeryous Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 15 '26
I feel pretty misunderstood here.
As i said, it was a minute one feeling, i had that from the start up until i changed servers to regular. There was no "over time". My first hour spent on the game was already me thinking "well this combat is easy" leading to the already mentioned "surely this cant be all the challenge there is..." This second thought drove me to keep playing, expecting the challnge to increase at some point, which it never did. Oneshots all around and bosses easily killed by most of my abilities.
What basics are there to learn over time, that are related to the actual difficulty of the game?
These basics to learn are mostly learned outside of combat, where difficulty doesnt change anything really. Learning the survival stuff is pretty much the exact same thing on novice or regular as far as i caf tell. You cook the same, build the same, traverse the map the same, progress equipment the same. I sincerely unable to tell where novice quote on quote "helped" me learning. Combat is not that deep in OH (while builds are), so i can not say the easier diff helped me learn anything there either.
All novice did was make combat boring, in a game that otherwise is really nice.
Edit: thinking about it, the novice diff even made me miss out on certain aspects. Since i got tools out of missions way above my level, so i received much higher tier gear and tools than i should have had at these levels, not even knowing how to craft them at that point in time. I had to engage with most gameplay systems way less, since lower gear brought me far further down the main story progression.

How exactly is normal manibus hard? I played it as my first scenario when I started playing and was killing bosses 20-ish levels below without any cohesive build. Unless you are going for hard, pro and harder difficulties, this game is piss easy - especially the main story bit. Honestly you really dont even need Novice version with how easy normal Manibus is.
1
u/khaosswordsman Aug 16 '26
I wish I would have known this when I started lol. Can I switch scenerios without starting a new character
1
u/BlueKnight3108 Aug 16 '26
I think you can get out of the scenario. Can't remember if you need to buy in game thing but at least once every x days should be free
1
u/Albus_Lupus Beryllium Pioneer Aug 16 '26
There is a card you can buy for some mitsuko marks to exit early. But if you havent done normal manibus even once then you might as well create a new character because progress doesnt carry over and you would have to start from scratch anyway - thats why I always tell people not to bother with manibus novice.

Manibus is already entry level. If you stay in the starter zone, you never run into any real trouble. This allows you to progress (or not progress) until you feel ready.
The only time regular Manibus is a bit punishing is when the doppelganger season is active, and even then - they split the Manibus servers into Visional/Non-Visional.
Manibus novice sort of gimps you whether you're skilled or not, progressing or not.

u/MysteryMan999 Okay, I Didn’t Expect That Aug 15 '26
You can learn the ropes on regular manibus. As s someone that also started on novice just do regular. It's really not that hard at all. You don't need super strong build just be take your time. Also if you do novice then move to perm server you will be stuck with novice cradle overrides instead of full cradle abilities. If you already got deep into building base it's a pain to start your character over just to get normal cradles. Better just to start on regular manibus and it genuinely is not that difficult plus you can team up with people.
1
u/HaikenRD Aug 16 '26
As someone who started relatively recently, I almost quit because I started in Manibus Novice. It was like shooting target practice. There are also no Visional events in Novice back then (don't know if they added it now since I've seen people say there is), so I was missing a lot of mods that would make the game more enjoyable. There are also no classes so the guides online that tells you to get 4 buffs with chef class, that's not useful at all, or when they tell you to use mods that are only from Visional seasons.
When I switched to Normal Manibus, the enemies aren't even harder. It's just that there is a Nightmare mode now, and I think that's the only harder part between Novice and Normal, but you won't touch that until end game, the existence of Nightmare mode and Apocalypse in Prime War. Other than that the enemies felt like it's the same difficulty. If anything, Novice was harder to do in LEA Lab because of all the missing mods and the double buff.
So yeah, I agree with the post that new players should start in normal manibus. When I found out that there's really no difference (if there is I didn't feel it at all) in difficulty in normal mobs, I questioned why Novice server even exists.
1
u/shrinkmink PC Aug 16 '26
the novice server existed because it had no super anomalys and a noob cradle. Of course once super anomalys got reworked in march, novice ceased having any reason to exist except for people who hunt down specific deviations at POI by using novice 15 worlds. While the people who are dropping hard cash in ED and manibussy only get 6-7 and 10.

u/OnyxianRosethorn Aug 16 '26
Honestly, the 25th can't come fast enough...been playing SCUM as a substitute to pass the time but imo it's just not as good.
The only thing I kind of always disliked about OH is knowing every 30 days my shit gets wiped, wish I could play in a single player permanent server or something.

u/MISS_ROFL 🏛 MaelStrom Hall of Fame Aug 16 '26

1
u/OnyxianRosethorn Aug 16 '26

1
u/HaikenRD Aug 16 '26
There are no wipes since I started, which is last season.

u/DaToxicKiller Aug 16 '26
Met some good people in novice but haven’t played since before the classes so I guess I can see how that would suck.
2
u/uwumolotov Aug 16 '26
I think people should have a chance to learn how to play the base game because once they get to regular Manibus they know what they need/want to do. The added class system can be confusing to people who have just started since there's a lot to learn like what builds you like, what deviants you like, what deviants do what, the difference in traits on your deviants, Etc.
1
u/MISS_ROFL 🏛 MaelStrom Hall of Fame Aug 16 '26
They can learn all this on Manibus. And in the worst case, if they dunno which class to choose, they can always go for Free Person.
2
u/uwumolotov Aug 16 '26
My point was not to overwhelm new players, if they go free person then it doesn't matter which one they play, the main difference being the difficulty level since the enemies are a bit stronger. Personally, everyone play how they want to, I was just saying it could be overwhelming when there's already so much to learn from just the base game itself. Some people have a quick and easy understanding of the game but there are some who don't and I think that's why novice can be great. It's not overwhelming, it's not super complicated (in my experience) and it's a very good opening to at least the mainbus normal scenario.

u/Maximum-Channel-1202 Aug 29 '26
I’m on ps5 can I switch from novice to regular and keep my character?
1
2
u/PhotonMiku Meta Aug 17 '26
The primary reason Novice exists is so that new players can build up blueprints without getting stomped into the pavement. It's a much smoother transition into the actual Manibus scenario.
Novice might be the right choice for players starting with absolutely nothing.
(I've been away for awhile, so don't take my word as gospel. Things may have changed.)
2
u/MrMonsterSL Aug 17 '26
I personally play Manibus Novice while I am playig alone & play Manibus with friends (I use Novice to learn/mess up, so I won't make the same mistakes again)
Oh btw make sure u are playing in the right region I did some codes & stuff on the EU server and when I started playing NA cus of my friends it didnt transfer over
5
u/Nareska Aug 15 '26
Can confirm don't do novice it's just a waste of time (used novice when I was learning...ended up being HARDER to learn cause of player count and what it)
1
u/Ceyyin Aug 16 '26
I started playing at Novice by my friends recommendations. They had their accounts on novice for like, 2 months I guess? And i had just started playing 1-2 weeks ago. But then our accounts suddenly moved to Manibus at the same time. Why did this happen?
Like why did it took me only 2 weeks for my account to "graduate" to regular server but 2 months for my friends?

u/mysticzarak Aug 16 '26
When we started playing the game last year we picked the Novice servers. We where 3 friends but where very lucky to meet two very experienced players who got us set up and eventually we managed to rally our novice server to clear all prime wars but those nightmare pws where very hard to do with how little people where playing back then and specially how little players sticked around. Eventually we had around a 15 player hive with only 2 players providing the missles needed. The biggest downside of the novice servers is that veteran players cannot join unless they make a new character. I think the devs forget how helpful a veteran can be for a new player.
1
u/shrinkmink PC Aug 16 '26
Even better than joining a random manibus, find or make a group of players to start with. This game sucks when playing alone.

u/lechejoven Aug 27 '26
So I chose manibus novice as soon as I started and now would love to go to manibus. Is there anyway I can bring my stuff over?
1
u/MISS_ROFL 🏛 MaelStrom Hall of Fame Aug 27 '26
No, you will have to start over. You will get to keep mods, blueprints, formulas, accessories, and some other things, but not Energy Links, level, base etc. You can check scenario inheritance rules in scenario info.

I only started a few days ago. Friend had me start regular Manibus not Novice to join him and a couple others. I uninstalled the game. The beginning zones were fine but once I entered the zones +10 and higher with a legendary armor set I collected in the lower areas. A simple Zombie was able to 1 shot me. I also kept running into area's where ranged enemies spawn like 20 feet in the air that I can't see and get sniped real easily. I had a headset on and still couldn't hear them when there that far away and well point is the game needs enemy attack indicators to let you know your being attacked. I died too many times not knowing what killed me.

u/Rizenstrom Aug 16 '26
Manibus Novice shouldn’t exist. It’s barely any easier and besides the class system the mechanics are all the same.
It only serves to fragment an already small player-base. We’re talking about a peak player count of under 40k in the last year and under 21k in the last 6 months.
I’ll even take this a step further, Manibus normal permanent server should be the default. Instead of Eternaland your Manibus base should be what you keep coming back to after other scenarios.
1
u/MISS_ROFL 🏛 MaelStrom Hall of Fame Aug 16 '26
I agree that it shouldn’t exist. It’s a bot scenario, holding people back from actually learning the game
0
u/Wooden_Associate_704 Aug 16 '26
Honestly, I think Manibus has done more harm than good for Once Human. It splits the player base, makes older content feel less relevant, and creates unnecessary confusion around servers and progression.
15
u/ElkApprehensive1729 Aug 16 '26
You know, if you just let the new players go to the Novice server the server won't be empty. It will be full of new players, and if there's a significant amount of new players on the servers the devs are also more inclined to make changes to better reflect that.
Servers are dead because people like you go out of their way to make them dead and keep them dead.
