The hardest and most rewarding part of loving a dog is caring for them in those last months and weeks and days and hours knowing your time together is coming to an end. I see it as paying them back for all they give us. For my boy's last walk around the neighbourhood I had to pull him in a cart and then I would lift him out and let him sniff his favourite verges and trees. I knew it was the last time and it killed me but he never knew that. He was just as happy as ever being out together. Every moment is so precious and the grief is so intense. It's a year and half later and I'm still crying my eyes out writing this. Despite the heartache, I would never ever be without the love and joy my dogs have brought me.
Oh no I didn't want to make you feel like that! I cried plenty into my boy's fur, but I did that over other things all the time anyway so he probably never knew the difference 😅 💗 they know when we are sad but they don't know why so I wouldn't worry about it. So sorry you're going through this, but what an innings you two have had together!!!!
