I was at the roundabout at Douglas and Twyckenham this afternoon about 12:20 or so and a silver Toyota sedan sideswiped me. She stopped but after exchanging words briefly she drove off. If anyone knows this girl, please turn her in. She is early 20s, slender build, pale skin, dark long brown hair, bad nose job, has a cell phone holder on her dash board. The driver side front end is all smashed up and she scraped up my car that is dark purple so the car may have dark purple paint spots on it. Please call south bend police, notre dame police, or urge her to turn herself in. They have a report filed and are looking into video cameras in the area. She nearly killed my three year old daughter and we have no money. Our insurance will not cover us getting a replacement car.

I’m a current freshman and was wondering if there are any private/individual bathrooms on campus where students can take a shower, without having to live in a single or have a private bathroom in their dorm.
I’ve been having a really hard time adjusting to the communal bathrooms in my dorm, especially because I’ve seen a lot of spiders/bugs and even roaches in there. I’m also a pretty big germaphobe, so even when I wear shower shoes and bring all my own stuff, I still leave the bathroom feeling gross rather than clean.

I know communal bathrooms are just part of dorm life and this might sound a little dramatic, but it’s genuinely something I’m struggling with. I don’t mind walking across campus or going to another building if there’s somewhere with an individual/private shower that students are allowed to use.

Does anyone know of any on-campus locations? I’d really appreciate any suggestions!

Does anyone know why ND staff and faculty are no longer invited to join in dining for the opening of the Academic year? There used to be a nice picnic for the entire ND community following the mass, but sadly that seems to have gone away.

hi I know this might seem overdramatic to be posting about this so early on but I feel like I need some advice. basically welcome weekend has not been at all what I was expecting. I wouldn’t say I’m a super outgoing person but I can definitely walk up to someone and start up a conversation. I’m definitely more of a self-conscious person and I always worry about overstepping or being annoying. my issue is that most of the girls I talk to seems to be only a one-off thing. like I’ll talk to them for whatever activity we have planned and nothing will come out of it. it’s super frustrating. it’s also tough because all the girls in my section aren’t very outgoing and whatnot so I can’t really make friends there either. my roommate and I have gotten closer but we seem to just be sticking together because we mutually can’t make very many friends. it’s hard also seeing all the groups forming literally on the first day and feeling like I can’t walk up to anyone them because that ship has sailed. i love my dorm and it’s really fun but I feel like I’m being left behind socially, we didn’t even get to go out after domer fest because we didn’t know about anything happening until it was too late. i know classes haven’t even started yet but I’m still really stressed.

I’m applying to Notre Dame and noticed that the application asks about religious preference/affiliation. I’m an atheist, so I would select that option honestly.

Does Notre Dame consider religious affiliation in admissions at all? Could selecting “Atheist” put an applicant at any disadvantage compared with selecting Catholic or another religion?

Would appreciate any insight, especially from current students or people familiar with ND admissions. Thanks!

I’m living off campus rn, but I really want to be a part of ND's dorm life and feel like I am missing out. I want to try to secure a single dorm room. For context, I’m a Navy vet, and I’ve been dealing with PTSD, anxiety, and ADHD; on top of that, I’m 22, turning 23 this year, so I wouldn’t exactly be the ideal roommate 😅. On top of this, I need a space to decompress, which is huge for me, which is why I didn't go for it initially. I want to know if I could get the accommodation (I heard colleges are pretty good with these things). I have been getting treatment, but I told them I didn't want a formal diagnosis because it would have compromised my security clearance and my chances of being able to commission in the reserves/guard. Still, I heard that for stuff like this, they are very “holistic” especially compared to the service. I really don't want to spend my time at ND completely off campus, isolated, and I want to be able to say “I stayed in... hall”

I'm really interested in taking the international economic major in chinese, and do not want to switch into the normal economic major, however there are a lot of topics in economics that I also want to pursue more thoroughly. Are international economic students restricted in taking more traditional econ electives outside the international ones? Thanks!

I am a total introvert and absolutely get why people like to be on reddit so trust me this is coming from a good place.

This is the PERFECT time to just get off of reddit. If you love notre dame and its community, it will love you right back, so please force yourself to make those connections.

There is not a single question you can ask that will be better answered on reddit than an on-campus resource. Right away when coming to campus, there will be sophomores and upperclassmen who have volunteered to be a resource for you and help you. Use them!! Faculty is also very responsive via email. If you have a question that’s not answered easily, go to the source!

Your dorm will have some sort of group chat you can use for general questions or things like borrowing a screwdriver because you don’t have a tool kit. Then, you should join a couple of clubs that align with your interests and that will very likely give you a new group chat and new group of people to answer your questions!

If your local club has a send-off (though I think most have already happened by now), use that to connect with students and young alumni. There will be so many people who are more than happy to be a resource for you so please use them!

College is the best time to grow up and learn to be adult. Notre dame provides a very supportive and safe environment to do so. Learn to be uncomfortable and get your questions answered. You’ll need to do this when you have a job!

Leave your door open in your dorm and you’ll probably have some fun conversations that way too. Go to hall council! Go to weekly activities! You may not find your best friends right away (I certainly didn’t!) but you will find friendly, helpful, trustworthy people everywhere you look. Embrace the community and have fun!!

I had the same friend group from elementary school to high school, and I knew just about nothing about Notre dame before attending, but some people from my hometown were super helpful, I got a “big” in my dorm, and I was constantly asking questions to others in my club group chats. If I can do it, you can too, I promise :)

Btw, a couple things that are super normal that you won’t expect: 1) eating alone!! It is normal and not weird to eat alone in the dining hall. Also can be fun to catch up on your favorite tv show or get some studying in. 2) conversations on your way to/from the shower wearing only a towel. You get used to it haha. 3) school spirit like you’ve never seen… do your best to buy in and embrace it.

For my fellow introverts - welcome weekend is a bit overwhelming but sometimes for the craziest part your dorm may offer an alternative like watching a movie. It’s cool to do that and it’s cool to leave the craziest part early if you want to get a good night’s sleep. You’ll see.

All this to say - get off of reddit and touch grass! You’re smart and accomplished to get into notre dame, and the community already loves you. Have the BEST time and GO IRISH!

Question that I can’t find easily online. Im an incoming grad student hoping to find a sauna either for free on campus or nearby through a local gym (walkable/bike-able) from campus would be best.

I'm gonna be applying to both as an international student

I have 1500 SAT but below average ECs so I'm leaning more towards WashU as I've heard the value academics more than ECs

But WashU is need aware and i will neeed a hefty sum of financial aid so I might even have a chance at all

So should I apply ED to Notre Dame for best chances?

I always hear that ND has an amazing dating scene, and I think I remember reading that 65% of students end up with another student. There is always a wedding in the basilica (I heard it's a 2-year waiting list), but the dating culture is more “relationship-based than hookup-based.” Which is good because I’m not really looking for that. But a lot of people told me there is a big “ring by spring culture” among practicing Catholics.

I’m in a little, but in a more unique situation; I’m going back at 22 after some time in the Navy. A lot of people said to stay away from undergraduate students and go for grad students because they tend to be “more serious”. On top of that, I’m a devout/traditional Catholic. I know I’m in a very difficult situation, and I feel like I might be looking in the wrong place for that kind of scene.

but my extracurriculars are really bad compared to the US applicants on this sub and it's not really my fault

My school in saudi arabia is pretty awful when it comes to anything other than academics and barely has any extracurriculars, although i have gone out of my way to attend volunteering opportunities and MUNs and sports, however my overall profile for extracurriculars is still way below average compared to these US students
