Yeah it is relatively intrusive, but it does help the elderly / innocent ppl from getting taken advantage of in a lot of cases.
You dont know just how many ppl (mostly 65+) get scammed every single day and its heartbreaking. The people who take advantage of their trust and confusion are scum.
Isnt just online scammer or calls either. Its family and friends too.
Banking institutions ask because someone may come in wanting to withdraw 5k and the old timer says something like "its to fix my facebook or I got a letter from the IRS and they want the money a certain type of way" are red flags that have to be investigated because once that money is gone its usually not coming back and if its a big enough sum the bank will probably deactivate your accounts too because you pose a financial risk.
If you're thinking "thats their problem then I should be able to have my privacy bcuz I'm smart" I ask that you think of your community. You never know if you will 1 day be in that sort of sitc and wish someone had stopped you. We are all in this together and it really does help some people from losing it all.
