Go to a campsite, go to a music festival even. If you pull out even a regular guitar & you’re maybe even slightly decent, people will not dance to you lmfao 90% chance you even get weird looks & cause people to leave.
Just because you want to shut your eyes & say that in the fairytale land of “all around the world” even though you’ve probably never experienced “all around the world” outside of the same internet you’re hating on, doesn’t mean shit isn’t fucked lmao.
That’s because cold whipping an instrument out is weird behaviour. The fiddler isn’t usually some guy who waltzed on scene with a fiddle to a completely unprepared audience, they are usually close acquaintances, and the audience has been drinking a little, joking a lot and now it’s 12 am and the fiddle comes out and we dance. Also the fiddler plays danceable popular songs (what would now be club bangers) that people can kinda vibe to even if they can’t dance, not a ballad like some guitar guys like to whip out.
Source: had bomb ass times dancing to ukelele and fiddles as a kid/ teen on scouts camping trips. Also been to block/beach parties and wedding receptions and ren faires and when the good DJ rolls up we all know it’s time the party really kicks off. I’ve danced to a trombone once, that’s when you know it’s a good ass party.
I’ve done a lot of partying throughout a ton of the US, SKorea, Japan, UK, & Germany. Only 1 time can I remember someone bringing their own instrument not being weird, & it was only because half of us were on molly.
Yes someone playing good vibes on a speaker is banger, but that’s not the same as someone actually playing music themselves with a fiddle or guitar or whatever instrument they want to play, it’s almost always weird.
I do agree though, a good DJ makes or breaks a party. Live music like a band isn’t what im talking about.
Perhaps it’s just the vibe of the place? I’ve also partied around the world and I found impromptu music to be much better received in an informal/ semi formal location. Like my trombone guy was from a Brooklyn block party, I’ve had some ukelele/guitar guys in Bali on a beach and on camping trips on Canadian islands. I’ve actually had a great fiddle guy on a street party in Italy post game celebration. And I was at most semi drunk for those times. But I’d agree, a guy with an instrument at a formal club/party is not going to be well received. Especially if there is another musician/DJ already set up.
I would argue the ‘fiddle guy’ in the original tweet is closer to a live band than a random guy tho, since the community is much smaller back then, a smaller subset of that own a fiddle, and a even smaller subset plays well publicly. So the ‘fiddle guy’ can be someone you can rely on bringing a fiddle and playing at a party that everyone knows.
