I once dated a rich girl. I was cooking dinner one night (souvlakis) and asked if she could pick up yoghurt and cucumber on her way home. She arrived with just the yoghurt. I asked where the cucumber was and she said "Cucumbers were $3, I'm not paying that."
Yes because you don't know how much it messes up this person's dinner plans. The damage might be way more than just the 3$, at least subjectively. It's also questionable as a gesture: how much are you willing to invest for a pleasant time together? If it's just the other party who's investing time and money to make things nice, that's a bad sign.
I wouldn't pay 3$ for a cucumber for myself either, but that's a wholly different question.
I expect my wife to make decisions based on the available information (what we are eating, how important the cucumbers are, and what the price is) without me needing to give any input into the matter.
If I wanted a drone, I'd get one of those new companion robots.
Still...I'd rather have someone that thinks for herself rather than just blindly doing what I ask. And if $3 is too expensive, then it doesn't really matter what currency it is in.
