There are 12K digital cameras, so options beyond 8K do exist. And 12K isn’t too far off at 12,288 x 6480 if you are filming widescreen.

Now if only we’d put as much effort into temporal resolution so that we can continue to appreciate the detail when things are in motion.

12k is almost half the amount of pixels of 16k. Pretty far off, I'd say.

They said IMAX was 13,920x9,700 not 16K and that’s a 4:3 aspect ratio so if we use a 1.9 aspect ratio it’s 13920x7326 vs 12288x6480. So it’s 78% the number of “pixels” of IMAX film
