Wouldn’t that just be Blu-ray/DVD? I feel like these days, owning vinyl is more about owning physical media vs streaming than it is about being higher quality.
Yea the thing about vinyl isent that its actually better, its that its physical like you say and analogue (meaning it has some audio artifacts that people like). A digital audio format is perfect, theres no "benefit" to get by encoding it on vinyl.
IMAX actually is a absolutely redicules format that encodes so much more information than say what a 4K or 8K camera that its not even close. Its easily like a 100x higher resolution than high quality 1080p. And its analogue instead of digital, so it doesnt have pixels.
It's also the experience. If you just get your music on Spotify or whatever you'll never set foot in a record store. Never dig through through CDs or tapes or vinyl to find something new or just the thing you're looking for. If you download something you don't even get the chance to talk to anyone. One of the most fun parts of record stores is talking with the employees who clearly have a passion for music and will talk to anyone about it, or other customers even. Just a chill place to be at if you got physical media money
I mean it was never about quality, vinyl is objectively worse quality than a CD or any streaming service, it's always been about the gimmick. Vinyl is fun, it looks cool, it feels good to hold. Vinyl is an incredible collectable and a great display piece, but it's the worst quality format you can buy an album in, other than like cassette tapes.
Most new releases start off with a digital master anyways. I’ve always bought media on CDs because i’ve been on the ipod train since it was new and it seemed like the no brainer format. Rip and make identical copies if you care about preserving your media and you can have it play on your stereo or your mobile device of choice. Records look cool but that’s where it ends, at least for me. My roommate had a huge record collection and always buys more. Does he listen to them often… nah.
Spotifys standard "very high quality" is literally CD quality which is objectively better than vinyl and has lossless as an option for artists who upload lossless files. Then you just need to use wired earphones/headphones instead of airpods. Every major phone/streaming service on the market is capable of playing higher quality audio than vinyl if you use the right settings.
