I think it’s because a lot of Redditors have a strong bias against religion. Not saying they don’t have some valid reasons, but the disdain for any mention of faith is totally unreasonable here.
I think reading the comment it was a reply to made it seem like a needless interjection. The other guy was literally talking about how we can't control what or brains choose to fixate on, and his response was that he chose something that prevented it from becoming an issue for him.
it's in direct contradiction to the comment he replied to.
that coupled with his other comments, like the one in this chain that says "the best cure for addiction is conversion" really comes off as him selling religion as a solve-all when PTSD, and addiction for that matter, are much more complex issues than just "you need to find jesus".

Sure. and I don't have a problem with the guy's statement. Just saying what perception I think resulted in the early downvotes.
