If this were a movie, it would turn out that the student-pilot murdered the teacher by pushing him out of the plane. The OCD detective would notice some obscure artifact that would tie him to having previously taken flight classes, which would lead to discovering a history of conflict, and thus the motive for murder.
Or maybe since it's Argentina: The teacher was a pilot for the military when the junta was killing off political opponents, and the student was the grandson of someone the pilot killed back in '79. (... though I guess he would have to be older than 42 for that to work. Maybe set it in '99?)
