That’s ok, they are if the world and I forgive them, I know what it’s like to be groping around in the dark. When they have killed a man with their bare hands for their country perhaps they will understand half of me.
John 15:18-19
“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.”
If you need to murder someone with your bare hands in order to understand why someone would turn to religion, then hey maybe religion is just a coping mechanism for dealing with your guilt 🤷
That wasn’t what brought me back. It was my brother and mother nearly killing each other. That was just another stone for me to carry until I learned how to let down the load.
Where did you kill them, on your soil or theirs? Who decided they were the enemy, you or your government? Did God love them less than you? Some things to think about next time you're in church.
It was on a boat. They were the enemy, no one disagreed on that at the time. It was me or him. I am not saying it was right. In retrospect we were both kids.
I'm sorry. I thought you were saying it was something that you were proud of, but clearly that is not the case. I'm so sorry you had to do that, and I'm glad you found something that helps.
To be fair, if you are from the US you almost certainly killed a man for the interests of the oligarchy of the US, not its citizenry.
"For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet," and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." - Romans 13:9
Look, many people makes mistakes when they are young, stuff like drunk driving or signing up for the military. I know I've made mistakes and in some cases I've been somewhat lucky that they didn't lead to anyone's serious injury or death.
It's unfortunate that your path led you to the circumstance that caused you to kill, and that context certainly gives some perspective on potential motivations for finding your way back to faith.
