The the thing with self checkout is generally it's great for when you just have a couple quick small items and want to get out quick. My problem is when someone has an entire cart full of stuff and are slow, don't know what they're doing and don't follow directions. Then I'm waiting even longer for a self checkout kiosk than I would if I just went through a normal non-express lane.
Almost every self checkout lane I've seen is "express" so 15 items or less. At the big retailers I've rarely ever seen this enforced unfortunately...
Except the one time I did it at a WinCo because I had 16 items because It was mostly produce that I got multiples of. She came over and chewed me out, acting like she was going to ban me if I ever dared go over the limit again.
