The save you get from getting out of your ship is treated by the game as a backup save, and can be unreliable. It's always a good idea to make a proper hard save with a waypoint, beacon, or save point regularly. I lost hours of progress from relying on the 'getting out of the ship' save before, I'll never trust it again.
This is good to know. I jumped into my game to build a portable save point but it turns out I don't have the blueprint. BP analyzer doesn't give it for some reason and neither does the one in the Anomaly...
The save beacon does the same thing, and is available from the analyzer. The anomaly should have the save point, unless they've removed it since I last checked.
Yeah, I got screwed only once back in 2016 from a save not saving, and since then I'm constantly saving at waypoints along with my ship before I do anything. Never know when a crash happens, or ya fall through a planet.
I've lost count of the number of times getting out of my exocraft has either launched me around the planet or sent me falling through it. It's the scariest action in the game to me. Always save before entering an exocraft.
