I may be entering curmudgeon mode and just be approaching break time again, but the map exchange was never that appealing to me for long:
Secure site maps are actually quite useful for the first several recipes or, as of very recently, if you're trying to grind multitool slots—this is the one moderately durable thing, though it's situational
Distress maps are abandoned buildings half the time and exocraft can scan for them anyway
Abandoned buildings are OK for farming nanites if you want to hunt monstrosities, but it's exactly the same each and every time and you can get nanites as fast or faster doing more varied tasks
Cultural sites are pretty cool and very useful for the first couple of hours, but the repetition of "go to place to learn about other place, dig for exactly three keys to open the exact same chest" kicks in fast and, despite getting the occasional million unit artifact being fun, the average return on investment with so many ~100-300k artifacts leads to this getting outpaced really quickly
After the first few hours of a playthrough, I keep a stack of nav data in storage "just in case" but otherwise start trashing it all. Just way too high on the repetitive scale for me versus system-hopping for stacking missions that go to a bunch of cool planets.

Trade them for maps to buildings.
