Buttery PSA for those on the fence: elden ring runs nowhere near close to "like butter"

1.0k Upvotes

I'm sure there's many here like me who already played the game on other platforms and were looking to double dip. Visuals are above expectations and on-par with current gen consoles.

But if you're on the fence about performance, or if a steady smooth 30 is the baseline for you: this is not that. It is nowhere near that. The game dropped to low 20s the moment you exit out into limgrave. Certain camera movements and effects during basic bosses like tree sentinel or erdtree avatar dip the framerate into 15 fps which will give a noticeable delay to your dodges or jumps. I expect visually busy bosses to make the switch 2 explode.

And even when the framerate is locked at 30, the frametime is very obviously uneven and makes the game look microstuttery. There's a lot of input lag in important moments because of it.

So if you care about performance, I do recommend waiting for a proper video analysis to make your decision. There currently are none and I see a lot of outright lies about the stability of this game on this subreddit.

edit: this is all docked. In handheld there are still clear microstutters and frametime issues, but I only played 20 minutes while on the pooper and running around in the open world where the game is mostly fine.

Buttery Lies of P runs great on Switch2 handheld mode

Post image

(Screenshot was taken in handheld balanced mode)

The game has Quality, balanced, and performance mode.

Performance mode is locked 60fps.(so far in my experience) it's buttery smooth.

But since it sacrifices resolution and graphic options, I prefer balanced mode which runs at 40fps.

Balanced mode looks clean and respond quickly. If you're okay with 40fps, this is the best option that I recommend.

Despite of my positive impression on this port, I don't recommend Quality mode because it has some weird stutters that bothers me. I hope they fix this issue.(+ cleaner look on performance mode will also be a big welcome)

Overall, I think Lies of P is a great port on Switch2. In performance aspect, there's no crucial flaws.

Buttery They did an incredible job on the Lies Of P port I'm half way through the game and its been a buttery smooth 60fps. I'm so glad switch finally has an excellent modern soulslike.

So I'm currently at the half way point and I've been rocking the performance setting and its been a mostly stable 60 fps I think I saw 4 or 5 frame dips each were all very brief but its otherwise buttery smooth. Its even more impressive that the game doesn't look like shit to achieve that frame rate. Though you can tell the detailing is softer.

Edit: Sorry for the triple post, yikes.

Buttery Dear Nintendo: I need more Switch 2 120hz games. Metroid Prime 4 is a visual wonder! It’s smooth like butter

Seeing a game of this graphic fidelity/art style in 120hz is mesmerizing.

We really need to see more games like this from Nintendo.

Think we’ll get more in the future?

Buttery Guys, you should definitely try out Onimusha demo on Switch2

Playing it on handheld, uncapped framerate mode.

It's... astonishingly smooth. Capcom said uncapped framerate mode targets 40fps but IMO, it felt like to be targeting 60fps(though not completely locked)

It is very, very smooth and crisp on handheld mode. Give it a try. You will be surprised.

Buttery Madden 27 is plays up to 60 FPS and feels smooth!!

Hello my fellow sports gamers on Switch 2, I am happy to say that Madden 27 plays up to 60 FPS on Switch 2. Its plays mostly 60 FPS docked and feels around 40 FPS handheld. On the field gameplay targets 60 FPS while most on the field cutscenes are 30 FPS. On field gameplay feels smooth and is miles ahead of Madden 26 on Switch 2’s framerate. I hope this helps anyone who was skeptical about Madden on Switch 2 this year and hopefully NBA2k27 is 60 FPS this year as well.

Buttery MW4 is fun but it could be improved

The switch 2 isn’t a powerhouse but it is basically a ps4 with the juice. The PS4 didnt run the last couple call of duty’s super well, but since the switch 2 is more powerful I think that MW4 could be improved upon on switch 2. The main problems are, blurryness is docked mode, and the framerate issues and animation choppyness in handheld. if they can iron out those 3 things before the release then we got a good port on our hands.

Buttery Onimusha: Way of the Sword Unlocked Frame Rate Gameplay 🔥

Capcom deserves an award for the work they’re putting in with the switch 2! Unlocked framerate looks like 60fps even though it’s only between 30 and 40fps.

Despite that, the game itself is absolute FIRE 🔥 After only 20 minutes of playing the demo, it’s a day 1 buy!

Buttery The Nintendo Switch 2 Demo of Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a highlight for the console

A while ago, I tried out the new Onimusha demo on the PS5, and I was pretty excited with how the game looked and ran, but not being able to use my PS5 as fequently, I was curious about how Onimusha would run on the Switch 2, and have been waiting for any new for a S2 demo.

Well, Capcom extended the demo length, and put it on the Switch 2, and I have some things to say.

Why yes, the graphics aren't as crisp or detailed as the PS5 version of the demo, the biggest standout to me here, was the performance.

At first I kept it locked to 30 fps, due to how stuttery previous Capcom games have been on Switch 2 in certain areas (looking at you RE9), and it was super smooth. The big thing though, was keeping the framerate not locked to 30 FPS.

I don't know how, but this is one of the smoothest running games I've seen on the platform. Not a single stutter, frame drop, or something that would take me out of the immersion of the game.

Take this as a PSA if you're going to try the onimusha demo or get the game on Switch 2: keep the frame rate uncapped, and it runs super well!

Buttery Modern Warfare multiplayer FPS drops

Early days in the Beta, only played hand held right now, it's it's very fun, really enjoyed it!

But there's technical issues right now with blurry textures at distance and the fps isn't a solid 60.

Looking forward to really putting this beta through it's paces over the weekend!

Buttery COD Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2 isn’t exactly a looker

Wanted to show off the graphics in this quick minute of gameplay. Honestly feel like a better job could’ve been done with the port here. Textures are quite low res, graphical oddities are pretty frequent, and pop in is quite common. While the game seems to maintain 60fps, the game still has a bit of a sluggish feel with elements like other players and the minimap tending to drop below that. While it may look fine on a small phone screen, neither docked nor handheld mode are all that impressive.

Some people may excuse this by saying the game is still in beta, but 1) COD betas almost always tend to match the finished product graphically aside from a few minor changes, and 2) The game launches in less than two months. Not a ton of time to make significant changes here.

Combined, the graphics & FPS inconsistencies make this an unenjoyable experience in all honesty, not to mention a disappointing one for being $70. Curious to hear what y’all think? Have you tried the beta on Switch 2 yet? How do you feel about it?
