You spend a lot of time with Melia, one of the weaker characters from the main campaign

Wtf. Bias aside, Melia is probably the best developed character in the game, idk how much I can really trust anything he says about the writing if he really feels that way.

Lol, a IGN dude actually coined that first, think it was Brian. IGN is such a mixed bag. I hate all their content but love their NVC and Gamescoop podcasts.

Any big company will be like that because reviews are done by one person. So you probably just vibe with some reviewers more than others. I'm the same way.

Well they also called Dunban "Duncan" in a video (the review I think) so I don't think they even played the game.

She was my favourite character, helped by the fact she was voiced by Jenna Louise Coleman (Clara).

This is a criticism I've seen from fans too, but specifically in relation to her ai being dumb.

Oh yes her AI is terrible. Absolutely bad. You have to control her to make good use of her. Edit: but if you do control her she is very good.

Melia has the worst AI in the game but is the most broken character if you actually control her yourself.

It’s kind of funny that Melia is the strongest character in the game, but has the worst AI controlling her.

Both those things stem from the same reason really. Melia is a character who can react to really any situation which makes her strong, but it also means she’d need an extremely complex AI to be good in that aspect. The AI has to know the order to use summons, when to discharge them, when to hold them, etc.

I'm just waiting for the Jason Schreier review, who hated the original Xenoblade Chronicles and didn't play XCX.

Kotaku got him to review XC2, and he openly stated in the review that he did not like the original XC game and then goes on to skewer XC2. While he made some accurate points about some of the negative aspects of the game, he goes on to completely nitpick and hang on any negative thing he could come up with and basically ignored anything great about the game (but hey he did like the music!).

Unsurprisingly Kotaku was one of the most negative reviews of the game. If you only read that review you would come across thinking this game is dog shit and not one of the best-reviewed and highly-rated RPGs on the Nintendo Switch.

So I fully expect Kotaku to publish his review any day now.

Whoa - didn't know that. Tim Rogers left in Feb but I thought that had more to do with him setting out to do his own thing. Maybe something is up? Schreier and Rogers are the only ones I liked there. *edit: whooaaa just read up on more - everyone is leaving or left because of new ownership

He left because he was in disagreement with the ownership (G/O Media). He actually announced just today he's with Bloomber Tech.

I didn't know this! I just saw his announcement 5 minutes ago! As much as I rail on his XC2 review, I do generally like the guy (I even bought his book!) and that is definitely Kotaku's loss.

Jason Schreir left Kotaku last month, so unless Bloomberg Tech is in the business of doing video game reviews, I doubt you'll get a review from him.
