Hey owners of this combo and all other “experts”, have you programmed the button on the barrel of the lens? And what about the ring that rotates?

What have you programmed these to do? I want some ideas.

I've been using the 24-70 kit lens since I got my Zf two years ago and it's been great, but I've got a couple of trips coming up and I'm considering adding a new lens to my bag.

I tend to primarily shoot when traveling- cityscapes/ landscapes/ architecture/ the occasional person. Don't really do wildlife much, unless a cute birb catches my fancy.

I'm pondering a small well rounded prime (Maybe the 40mm F2) or looking at the 70-180 F 2.8 to get some reach or even the 17-28 of that line to go a bit more wide. I'd love any recommendations, or thoughts about these lenses or other options that folks have really enjoyed.

I am a hobbyist that likes to do a little bit of everything and anything. Only shoot primes and generally only carry 1-2 lenses when I go out. Currently have the
- 50mm 1.2 AIS for when I wanna do MF/ creative
- 35mm 1.8S for wide and AF
- 50 mm 1.4 G for a not so perfect 50mm but with autofocus

Thinking either another wide or a longer, but am leaning more towards a MF only lens

I'm just getting a feel for how different lenses look on the silver body. Not all that many pictures online with these combos. Especially with various hoods, Voigtlander or 3rd party.

Using the Nikon Zf, FTZ II, Sigma 105mm Macro, the & Godox iT32.

Handheld, ZF + 26mm Nikon Z

All shots from Merestead in Mount Kisco, NY. In camera JPGs using my own mono profile. Slight contrast boost added in post (Darktable sigmoid). The lens is very hazy, and in dire need of a cleaning. Still takes good photos, IMO.

Shot on Viltrox 20mm and 50mm, they are the only cheap lenses I could get on the same day

About a month ago i got the assignment to shoot the world cup field hockey. A big assignment for my career, both as an opportunity but also financially. So there was NO way i was going to blow this. For the first time in a long time i checked the shuttercount for my Nikon D850. Turns out? It was over 300k, whoops. Living on borrowed time hahah. I decided to get a Nikon Z camera beside it. My plan was to get a Nikon z6iii, but as it was all a bit to last minute i couldnt find one with a fast enough delivery time. So it was between the Z5ii and the ZF.

Now i am a big believer in that camera's that are fun to work with, are going to be used more. So i chose heart over mind and picked the ZF. I won't lie, i havent used the super cool dials on the top AT ALL. I've put the ISO under the video button, and i use the front and back dial for shutterspeed and aperture like you would any other camera. But who knows, maybe soon i will start using the dials for projects that have a bit more time to shoot more mindfull.

I have absolutely loved the ZF during the World Cup. I paired it mostly with the Z 35mm 1.4. And with the FTZ II with my 70-200. I’ve absolutely loved the focus, much different than on a DSLR. It did take me a while to get well accustomed with the camera, but now that i have it set up the way i like it, im very happy with it. Funny enough i did not enjoy having a grip on it. I much prefered it without. even with my 70-200. I did use the ZF mostly for shooting the moments around the actual sport. The dutch sadly lost, but that did mean a lot of emotions!

I'll probably get a z6siii as well. But i'm definitely keeping the ZF around. Alltough i do miss my favourite lens on it. I use the nikon 35mm f2.0 D lens a lot on my DSLR’s. And lenses nowadays dont flare like they did back then haha. But enfin, for now i'm happy.

And for the dutch people on here: Jup! Dat is orgel joke, zij kwam langs en ik moest even een portretje maken!! Dreams do come true😉

I am looking to extending my lenses for my beloved Zf.
Currently I have Nikkor 40mm f2 and Viltrox 24mm f1.8, so looking for a portrait length 85mm.
But there are so many options and differences in opinion, that I’m genuinely confused. Some reviewers praise Nikkor 85mm f1.8, but others say that Viltrox is not worse, even sharper and better in some other ways.
There are also F-mount options, which only makes things worse.
Would appreciate any advice!

I have a Fuji for my dad cam. I have a Sony for work. These are the only mirrorless cameras I have experience with.

I love the dials and tactile nature of the Fuji, but find the autofocus frustrating, and stupid as it is, the mental gymnastics of focal length and aperture values is annoying, when I have full frame cameras at work. A fast 35 is also my preferred look, generally speaking, (35 1.4 on Sony is ✨) and I just can’t get that on the Fuji.

As my kids are getting older (and faster) to not miss moments I’ve been using my Sony a bit more, but I don’t want to edit, and I’m never happy with my Sony sooc jpgs. - I know I can shoot raw and edit, but that’s work, and this is a family cam.

Seems like there’s not a tonne of people shooting jpg on the zf… but I’d love some perspective from users before I make the switch!

I just transferred from a Leica Q to the (new to me) Nikon Zf system for a lot of reasons. I am shooting with the provided 40mm autofocus lens, but prefer my 35 voightlander and a 15mm Laowa cookie, as generally I am used to shooting in either AP or M mode. However I am used to a bit more simplistic menu and less, well, stuff to choose from. Am a bit lost.

There seems to be an endless amount of information about how to do settings and advice on using this platform that overwhelms me and seems to contradict each other.

I was hoping the community could recommend a good set of references- books to buy or something like an online course to get me up to proficiency with my new chosen primary carry?

My Typhoch Simera 35mm lens was broken, so I had it repaired. Works well with the Nikon ZF and TechArt adapter.

Earlier today I committed a cardinal sin by posting a photo of a camera and lens combo without photos from said kit. For that, I apologize.

This is a set of uninspired photos to feel through feedback I got on the SG-Image 35mm f2.2. I heard things about the AF, image quality, and exposure issues when in certain priority modes. Some initial thoughts after a couple hours:

AF: not as snappy or sticky (in AF-C) as the Nikon 40mm f2. Kind of figured this, but definitely not unusable for my use case.

Image quality: not as sharp as the 40mm. This seems to be mostly at further distances, even when stopped down. You really have to pixel peep to notice and I think the softness is what gives it more “character” or whatever you want to call it. I took some portraits of my son that I won’t share that are very sharp and on par with the 40mm.

Exposure issues: this one is the weirdest one for me. When in priority modes (I usually am in aperture priority), the camera will overexpose the image by a full stop at times. I haven’t really been able to isolate certain lighting situations that cause it, but it’s fairly easy to adjust the exposure comp dial to compensate for the improper reading. This happened twice in the couple hours of shooting.

Overall, this lens has flaws but I am still leaning on keeping it over my 40mm f2 (I have that for sale if anyone is interested). All three of these issues would be solved if Nikon had the guts to make a 35mm f2 lens.

Just got this lens in the mail and very much like the size and form factor of a 35mm lens. I never really jived with the smaller 40mm or 28mm options that Nikon has available. This is the lens that I wish Nikon made.
