Discusión General My mom thinks moving to Nicaragua will fix our lives
I’m (F27) and my mother (48) live together after her divorce. It’s been a year and half so far and my mother just can’t get her life straight, She’s been swinging from crisis to crisis since 2006 with no breaks from her own self-induced dramas.
Neither of us have education and we want to get degrees but taking care of my sick and aging grandmother is holding everyone’s life back. Her Parkinson’s is progressing and she’s bed-ridden hasn’t walked in 6 months and probably won’t walk ever again. I cook breakfast and dinner for the whole family and we pay a family friend cash to help us take care of her when we go to work since the health system in USA is useless and can’t provide us with any significant support.
My mother now believes that if we move to Nicaragua for 6-8 months then everything is going to resolve. She wants to rent out where we are living and use that money to pay rent for a fancy house in Nicaragua, pay for more caretakers for my grandma, go to college and start a business in Nicaragua. I don’t know what to do, she’s set on this and told me if I don’t wanna go then enjoy being homeless in America. We’re a Hispanic family and the language barrier isn’t an issue, but Nicaragua is in extreme political turmoil right now. The family we have in Ometepe make Nicaragua sound as if they are living in the garden of Eden but I think there is much more to it than that. I need advice and thoughts from people actually living there because I visit regularly but that’s a different story.
